Hi wondered if you could give me some help.
Im not very experienced in the braking department,
but the problem is that my brake pedal has gone rock hard
and can hardly stop for anything.
Also when i put my foot on the brakes there is a hissing sound from the
passenger side and the cars idol dips right down.

Any ideas on what wrong or how to fix it.

sounds like the servo pipe to inlet has come off or poss broken?

Stick a bung in the hole in the inlet manifold, and brake like a man! lol.

On a more serious note, as Ste says its a vaccuum problem, might just be the rubber grommet thats between the servo and the vaccuum hose.

Or maybe that the servo has failed. Its not uncommon.

Just check the pipe & joins to the servo from the inlet manifold are not leaking any air. If you remove it too, you should only be able to blow or suck air through the pipe in 1 direction. If you can move air through it in both directions then the 1 way valve is shot & thats why the servo is dead. Its designed to stop any fuel vapours from the inlet getting into the servo & perishing the diaphragm.

I've been there & done it a few times.... 1 way valve is about ?3 from Vauxhall though which isnt too bad, swapping a servo can be an pain though.

Oh ok thanks for the help guys
shall have a look at that later.
I do have a spare servo but it looks a big job to change so if i can get the parts then ill do that.
The pipe from the inlet manifold to the servo is abit dodgy though
if u wiggle it slighty it releases air at the seal to the servo.
But im not sure that, thats the problem because the pipe doesnt move when i put my foot on the brakes.

Check the one way valve as CG says, stick some PTFE tape on the thread on the inlet manifold, and get a new grommet from vauxhal, if that lot doesnt fix it then its probably the servo.
