Going on from the other thread, thought it would be a good idea for someone to post a 1/4mile time thread. I know different surfaces(concrete, tarmac etc) will make a difference, as will drivers. But just as a rough guide for people.

Would be cool if a mod could sticky this :D

I'll start:

Car-X16xe Nova: 110-115bhp,110lb/ft torque
Tyres-Standard road Uniroyal Rainsports-195/45/15
Estimated car weight-Around 820kg- Stripped interior apart from SR drivers seat/dash, and a spare wheel
Time-16.04 @86.2mph
Reaction-0.655
Run at-Santa Pod (September 07)

Try and keep the post layout the same to make it easier to read :)

That's a dam good time Oli, but surely that top speed is not right, im sure with F20 and Rolling radius of 15's with 45mm profiles would not get that high, more like 145/7 top...

lol i dont get traction issues, no doubt an error on my bahalf. I have doe bang on 2.0 60fts and faster terminal speeds but not put them together yet.

Also there are a few different F20s like most other boxes, plus it all depends what your limiter is set at. If yo had a 9k limit then you could get some good tops speed assuming its making the power there. Think 'll be upping mine to jus over 8k when its done, not tha I ever want to do that in 6th gear though.

12.5 @ 111mph with a 2.05 60ft last time out

I managed a 12.7 yesterday on a test setup and missing a gear, 1.94 60ft though so getting better at launches.

IIRC there were 2 F20's one from the Asta/cav generation and then there was the 4x4 F20 which did have a different FD in it. quite sure Ollys was a normal F20 box though

Ollys top speed run is about right for a car with little weight and a increased rev limit, especially as thats within 1.25 miles.

Im no 1/4mile expert, but the 60ft is basically how good your launch was/is.
Id say 2.2 from a std xe is good.

Looking at the weights, i'm hopeing my new Shell will be light. Because the Acid removed all sound deadning (that tar crap) and underseal. I'm not replacing any of the sound deadning and the underseal is now gravitex.

Be interesting to get it weighted when its all together.

My current Xe Merit weighed in at 520 front, 250 rear with all deadening removed (inc the tar stuff thats stuck down). Not sure how much the underseal would be as i still have that, plus its a Mk2 so its full of seam sealer (aka rust promoter).
Im hoping to remove another 50+kg with the FG bonnet, tailgate and Buckets.

2.9 seconds Simps LOL You really shouldn't be afraid of launching it now you have a F28 in it.

Looking through the green novas time slips and Gavs old blue one there really isn't much in it on the 1/8th.

Think he ran 7.9 @ 101 on the 1/8 in his and I run a 8.1 @ 90mph in the green machine, best from his was 11.9 though @ 125 mph LOL, certainly shows how much a let nova puts the power down 1/8 onwards.

I think in Jan we'll re-appear pushing the nitrous a lot more now we have a engine that "should" take it lol

Surely for a show/"normal" car its worth keeping the sound deadening fitted?

Without a doubt the deadening, both soft and hard weighs alot, standard seats weigh an awful lot so might be worth swapping them out.

But like LLTN says, why remove only the deadening? best to go down one route or another, not try and hover in the middle, either strip it, or fill it full of trim, speakers, sound deadening and comforts.

also 900kg is more than realistic, (I am assuming your XEing it??) as IIRC an XE only weighs 30kilos more than a 1.2 lump, assuming that a GTE engine is roughly the same, the weight of a gte is about 860, so not much else that can add to the weight bar a cage and a brace or 2.

Gav laughed aswell when I told him! lol I know the car can easily get in the 13s just from the terminal I got with that rubbish 60ft.

I never drive the car hard in 1st or 2nd as there's never been a need! Track is all 3rd upwards as is most on the road. I come off most roundabouts in 3rd as I'm at 22psi by 3-4k.

When the car was dipped it removed all the sound deadning, including the stuff in the battery tray etc etc. I don't see the point in buying loads of heavy sound deadning to refit it?

Tho this might change after I drive it only to find it rattles and bangs worse than before.

Its a 1985 1.2 shell, and i'm fitting a LET and F28, so has a little more weight than an XE nova.

all you need to fit keith is a few strips of dynamat stuff, you don need to cover a hole panel. you just need to lay a couple of thin strips on each panel. its amazing what a difference it makes.

Might change next year if mine stagnates and other peoples projects on the go come to fruition, although there have always been more powerful 1600's than mine, just none that can outperform it ;)

You'd need a serious amount of engine work to make 260 from an XE. Mines got a pretty big ole spec and its only going to make 230 at a big push.

Only way that spec will make that power is with a squirt of the dentists finest. Quite a big squirt :)

Guess once the brakes are sorted and i can have a better go at it (only did two runs with brakes like that,2nd got 15.0) it should creap up.

Is that speed definently correct? The higher the top speed is, usually the more power the car has...

if it made a 13.47 pass on the quarter with a reaction time on 2.416 seconds then on a good run the reaction time should be below 1second making the car hit high 11's if a matching run was made but with a good reaction time. make sense?? doesnt seem right to me tbh lol

Adam
10-07-08, 07:10 PM
Reaction time is irrelevant.
Pods timing equipment doesn't start until your cross the line.
The reaction time is just the delay between the lights going green and you moving...... (you could sit for 10mins with the lights on green, and then set off and still do a 13)

Lee H
10-07-08, 07:46 PM
Adam is correct, think most drag strips are like this too, York definitely is!!

ck
11-07-08, 01:24 AM
ok fair enough not sure myself hence why i said about it.

wouldnt it make it not as acurate? for working out actual reaction times ect?

surely the reaction time should mean the time between the light going green and the car actualy moving.
and surely the timer fo the Quarter will start at the monent the light changes to green and not when the car passes the start line.

can anyone enlighten the situation?

Lee H
11-07-08, 07:55 AM
The time for the 1/4 doesn't start until the car moves. The reaction time is how long it takes the car to move after the lights go green.

As above.
My first ever run was against a mate. Didnt no what i was realy doing lol. I moved, he didnt, i stop then went again and i beat him to the end but his time was better.

am i right in thinking that in drag racing comps its slightly different? as in timed from wen lights go green so basically whoever crosses line first wins??
otherwise would be pointless running cars side by side and could just do timed runs to decide winner??
im prob comp wrong on this thou.

Drag racing is go on green and first across the line wins yes.

Drag racing is go on green and first across the line wins yes.

That actually depends what sort of drag racing your doing.

Bracket racing for example is when you set yourself a time that you will run, so does the other person and whoever is closest goes through.

It makes no odds if you take 25 secs or 8 secs, as long as your doing or close to the time you said your the winner.

There was a yank meet at York when we were yesterday and the final was a Dodge Ram Vs 10 Camero iirc, some proper fast stuff had been knocked out already.

with those reaction times and 1/4 this would make it a 11second car on a good run...

reaction time dosent count towards your time

time starts once you react
