View Full Version : Help please. Timing Chain Seal.

I managed to source a timing chain kit and I am stumped as to how to fit the cork ring seal into the timing chain cover.

There appears to be 3 indentations which made me think some form of pin tool is required to open this up to insert the gasket, but have tried using a punch and hammer and it won't budge.

Can someone who has a Haynes manual or even knowledge of this advise on how to fit this seal please?

According to Haynes, there should be a holder for the seal, that you tap out of the cover. You tap it out from the inside of the cover.
Then
"Place the new seal(which has been soaked in engine oil for 24hours) into the holder, then tap the holder into the cover using a block of wood. The seal holder must be fitted flush with the outer edge of the timing cover.

Fantastic, worked first time.

Have left the seal to marinade in Castrol GTX.

Thanks very much.
