its not a case of mk1 V mk2.

there both the same really. the thing everyone is after is an 'early' mk 1 tailgate. they dont have the grab handle on the boot. only really old novas had them though, you'll find them on granny cars with like a 'b' or 'c' reg. ill try and find you some pics.........

that would be great if you could. but basicly if i took the grab handle off my mk2 boot it would look the same?

thats the normal one (mk 1 and 2)....

and this is the 'early type' (note round lock and no grab handle).....

doesnt look much there but on a nice car it just cleans up the clutter.....

and taking off your original grab handle would leave you with a big square plastic lock. the early ones had a nice round metal one.

but if you wanted you could lose the handle and lock and get it all smoothed over and painted? looks nice but you also need a boot popper to open the boot, plus bodyshop costs of smoothing/painting.

prob cheaper to find an early tailgate

When you remove the grab handle from a tailgate the recess is much bigger than the Early tailgate.

almost forgot,.....if you can find a real poverty spec nova on say a 'b' plate, you may get lucky. they didnt even have a rear wiper back in them days so looks even cleaner!
