So what can be done to these engines to get silly bhp out of them??
Whats the most bhp anyone on here has had and at what spec?
Just interested to see what kind of beast I have really (stock engine currently) and how easy it is to source second hand performance bits (ebay seems a bit scarce)
cheers :thumb:

I know it's possible to get near 250bhp out of a C16XE, don't know how different the X's are.

If you stay N/A, your looking at having to spend thousands to get 250bhp from a 1.6 16v

Aye, N/A SBD can get 250ish bhp, though that is only really suitable in a lightweight kit car tbh due to torque characteristics.

MVAUX were boasting a 350bhp turbo kit incl pistons & rods using a big T34 blower. The site is offline though, so they may be no more.

I'm hoping my C16XE will nudge on the door of 150bhp when on th eroad. Inlet, cams, exhaust, filter & remap.

Its dyno'd at 148 with the std manifold & downpipe in the donor Corsa, with a slipping clutch.

about 190 is doable on a modest budget... like broster had before he got the rod to leave the engine lol.

TB's, cams, good mapping, bit of head work, good exhaust manifold + system..

well i've got will F's old 4 branch so its a start lmao lol

I believe there was a mantzeled up corsa in tv years ago, that had pretty much all of their gear on and was knocking on 160bhp without a re-map.

at what point would I need uprated rods and bolts?

When you start spending prolonged periods at 8k rpm. :D

Pistons are usually swapped to gain CR & are pocketed to clear wild/high lift cams. It makes sense to do the rods at this point as you could keep craving higher rev limits & then avoid another total rebuild.

The std rods are pretty weak in comparison with most of the rest of the enegine.

Set of ARP rod bolts.
Tb's/Mapping
Decent exhaust manifold/system
Decent cams (will need pistons modding)

Should see 170-190, and is a nice spec.
More than that needs mega money.

Or a matnzel type inlet, with same spec as above, and decent management/mapping can see 150/160bhp too. Without the expense of tb's.

Or screw all this high revving NA stuff, and turbo the mofo lol

for high reving 1.616v there are block modds neeed to help the oil drain to sump SBD found that at high rev the oil don't follow down again and you get the BT affect

BT affect; Summat to do with Lee then?

At really high spec, I'd expect a dry sump anyway, as at over 8500rpm the std oil pump will cavitate according to Lee He****y. He knows the small blocks very well.

Tbh, like Lee, if you really crave good power from a smallblock, start with the Corsa C 1800 XE smallblock. The cylinder head has awesomely large inlet ports in comparison to the 1600 & even the 2.0 XE. Great basis.

There fine for 7-7.5 ish k rpm.
I agree with Craig tho, the 1800 16v small block is a great choice if going tb's etc.
Not so much if wanting to run it on standard management, due to complex wiring, electronic throttles etc.

For a modest budget 150 is just about achievable

With a decent set of cams and modified pistons you can get approx 160-170 with a decent exhaust.

The SBD figures are optimistic DYNO figures, and dont take into account loss through ancilleries etc.

To get a realistic RELIABLE 150 bhp you are looking at ?2500-3000, depending on how much you can do yourself.

That reminds me, the top spec SBD stuff removes the belt driven water pump which allegedly free's up 20bhp at those rpms. SBD also write about how pump fuel isnt like it was years ago & the figures on there conversions are optimistic now unless using an octane booster.
