i am still a bit undecided what to with my engine.

i have a really nasty rattle in my 1400 spi block with 1300 SR head so the plan was to put a 1400 SRI MPI engine in with some webber 40's off my old engine.

now, on another nova website i was told the spi block and sri (mpi) head was best to use. it had the best power/performance..

then last night i was told that the sri engine would be no more power/performance over what i already have (1400 spi block with 1300 head)?

so now i am confused! someone please clear this up..

basicly i want the most power/performance i can get from a 1400 engine!

i have a 1400 spi block that i didnt really want to re-build because of the rattle..1400 SRI block, 1400 SRI head, 1300 SR head..

what should i do? what combo would be best?

i always thought the sri was quicker and was a great little engine as it was a gsi engine with less cc?

all your help will be appreciated!

cheers,

Greg

I'd use the SRI engine, sell the webbers and use the cash for management.

1400 mpi lump with the head skimmed a touch would be perfect imho.

read 1.4 tuning guide in sig link.

i aint getting rid of the weber 40's!!! they are going on it, i love them.lol

the engine will be getting stripped and re-built, highlift cam, vernier pulley, head skimmed/ported and polished..thatl do for now, aswell as the webers and full exhaust system. how much power should that be kicking out?

so the sri engine is the one to go for?? rather than my 1400 block with 1300 sr head..

"highlift cam" is properly vauge lol.

vernier isnt vital either.

oh and a P&P head is vauge too lol.

a reasonably specced engine (just lift dans 1.6 spec and apply it to the 1400) should see about 130ish bhp (maybe a touch less) and a good belt of torque.

I'd use the SRi engine, higher compression as standard, and better inlet port design. Well set up with all the other bits should get close to 120bhp at the flywheel. You'll need a T40 manifold for a GSi for the ports to match up.
