This is my Nova, which I bought recently. I found it by chance when the owner emailed me asking for some advice on what to do with it. He had bought it for his girlfriend but she didn't like it (I've no idea why). Keen to see the car go to someone who would, ahem, look after it I advised him to sell it to me lol. Which he did for ?150. It has no MoT or tax but has only done 22,500 miles with every MoT seeming to prove this. I made the offer without seeing the car; Lynz went and checked it out, took all the pictures of it and reckoned it was well worth having.
Originally it was going to be fitted with a 1.3 but I came to the conclusion that my Cavalier GSi 4x4 wasn't fast enough and would go much better with a 3.0 V6 engine. This meant I'd have a spare 110k C20XE from the Cavalier :).

http://www.totalvauxhall.co.uk/resources/totalvauxhall/CavalierGSi4x4.jpg

The Nova is currently at Chris Astley Motorsport who picked it up a couple of weeks back. It's getting various things done to it for mag features, with the welding/stengthening kit happening next week.
Lynz also sourced a grey set of seats from an early SR (?20 inc a set of rev counters - bargain!) so they'll be replacing the standard seats with them. I'm probably going to swap all the dash and trim for the grey equivalent as people will apparently pay exorbitant prices for the brown plastics etc as they're shared with the Sport. Other than that it'll be staying standard looking, apart from the 15 inch Astra Sport steel wheels currently fitted to my Belmont and a snow plough spoiler (again found by Lynz :)). I've got a LSD equipped F20 to go with the engine, while Sportex are producing a system for it when the conversion is done. I'm not in a major rush to see it on the road, but looking forward to having some fun with it next spring.

Awesome! another old skooler to go with mine:D . I'd be interested to see the exhaust system, and how much it gains peformance wise, as i need to upgrade mine as it's currently on the standard centre. Imo i'd keep the brown interior stuff, especially seeing as you're gonna keep the paint brown;) , just add some period touches like a mountney wheel, harnesses, sharp tape deck, that sort of thing. i reckon it'd look good right low, with some euro 14" steels. I'll be keeping my eye on this one:thumb:

ps let me know if you still want the clocks, and i'll dig em out for you.

Lynsey

Nice one dougie, just knew from the tv feature that it would be mint, although you said you dont want a brown interior, my old one from the sr really needs to go! I have no use for it now. Also I might be selling my brown sr seats.. let me know

I also reckon you should keep it brown, how often do you see another brown nova nova? let alone an xe'd one!

Dan 130
23-10-07, 10:14 PM
without a doubt keep it brown if not give it to me :D

The brown interior bits are probably going to have to go, given their apparently high value. So the dash, carpets and shelf will all be going on the 'bay while I source some grey replacements from a G-reg L for ?3.46. Unless someone wants to sell me some brown SR seats cheap :)

Yeah John would love a set of early clocks if you have them.

Andy_L
24-10-07, 09:47 AM
Why would you not keepo it brown??? Paint looks good enough IMHO for a litle while longer. Plus overtaking someone in a brown Nova has to be worth some extra points surely.

Dougie i've found the clocks out for you, but the plastic cover has two small cracks either side of the lense. later mk1 clocks (Sr gte) have the same cover. You're welcome to 'em if you want 'em.

21-11-07, 10:39 AM
Burgo Brown ftw!

I'd say stick with the retro interior as well. Wouldn't look quite right otherwise... might as well fit a GSi kit and speedlines lol

I want a brown 2dr A reg Nova (saloon tho obviously) :D

craig green
21-11-07, 12:59 PM

You just want to see him bent over, breaking a sweat! :D

Dougie_SRi
21-11-07, 01:32 PM
It's staying brown he he. Only thing I'll fit is a lower valance and either the Astra Sport steelies off the Belmont or Cav GSi wheels.

Someone with a Mocca brown Nova sent me pics and offered to buy the standard seats. His name is Simon Rushton, but I've never been able to get through to him. Think he might be a PNG member. He can have them, I'm fitting early SR interior.

craig green
21-11-07, 01:36 PM
You'd have to be crazy to keep the std deckchairs. You'd be sitting in the door pockets or on the handbrake otherwise.....

Lynsey

I took Dougie up to collect it last Tuesday. He went to get it MOT'd today and it passed :p so he's happy. Just waiting for the Combe at the weekend now :D Reckon we will go for a drive out on Sunday as both of our Novas will be on the road, will find somewhere nice for a photoshoot. It doesn't look that different from the outside, quite low though cos he has the AVOs :D

Dougie_SRi
15-04-08, 01:53 PM
As Lynz said it passed it's MoT yesterday. Not got many pics yet but will soon.

Tried to fit a set of GSi clocks but that didn't work so am back to the original ones. Can I use the six-pin plug from my standard clocks in a set of early SR dials? Or do I need to rewire it?

Aamir
15-04-08, 02:13 PM
Get some widened steelies dude, proper retro look on mk1's

Colour is SO different ;)

Dougie, you can use early SR or GTE clocks. Everything will work off the existing plug except the rev counter (needs green wire off XE loom) & the oil pressure gauge which may wire into the sender on the back of the XE oil pump (not sure)

A common error when adding 6 dial clocks to a poverty spec car is to route the speedo cable around the dash support so it enters the speedo drive square on, as opposed to making the cable do a snake into the speedo.

get some pics up!

Dougie_SRi
15-04-08, 03:01 PM
It's getting a set of Mk3 Astra CDX 15 inch wheels, only because that's what turned up cheap locally.

I've got a set of 14 inch Mk4 Astravan steelies I thought about using but they're ET39 and the tyres were sat on the rear arches, so I'm going with ET49 15s and 195/45x15 tyres instead.

That one in the post above looks like a roller skate. :)

craig green
15-04-08, 03:04 PM
One above looks daft IMO. Ze Germanz really know how to ruin a car sometimes.

Remember 14" LXi Cav /Astra wheels? They'd look good.

I'd use 50 profiles too, for the sake of a few quid cheaper, the difference to 45's is miniscule.

Dougie_SRi
15-04-08, 03:08 PM
Cool, I need a set of those clocks then. I have two sets but both have a corroded PCB on the back and neither work properly.

I don't really have any pictures yet that I've taken, will do by the weekend

craig green
15-04-08, 03:34 PM
I probably dont need to tell you, but beware of clocks & such on ebay listed as GTE/SR & GSi. mk1&2 not the same yet the seelers list them as the same.

Lynsey
16-04-08, 06:46 PM
lol Just in case you didn't know that Dougie...

novacabrio
16-04-08, 08:27 PM
Dougie I have a set of old clocks the PCB may be of use from
