View Full Version : Mark Watts - Purple GTE Nova Turbo

I was quietly looking through the First ever Total Vauxhall Mag, and found Mark Watt's old GTE Turbo nova. I know he sold it some years back, and have heard terrible stories of it being a mess now. However no one's ever came up with any evidence!
Doe's anyone know its whereabouts now? Any photos? Is it being restored or is it way past it?
Keith
On the courtenay site many years ago, there was a build thread of a 1.6T GTE, that was purple, it was stolen and found sometime later burnt out.
EDIT: Could possibly be the wrong car lol
Last i saw of it was on ebay, using one of Marks pics to advertise it. Apparently someone went to see it and it looked like it had been under a tree for about 2 years! The guy selling it had the ad removed iirc. Not seen it since.

I'm pretty sure it was at Trax this year, parked on the carpark to the right of the 0-60 strip. Did'nt look too bad!!
Last time I saw it was about a year ago parked up at the side of the road near sainsbury's in Warlingham, Surrey. 'Looked' ok to me.

nope thats on his vx220
Anyone got any piccies of it previously, as there was a lad in scarborough that bought a turbo`d gte a couple of years back, was purple bodykitted and the bonnet was secured on by four bonnet pins and not on hinges, he bought it silly cheap as it wouldnt run, turned out it needed new plugs and the dizzy timing had slipped round due to a loose dizzy bolt, not too sure where that one went but it was mint, prob not the same car but its a very small world when you think about it lol!

One of the best Nova GTE 'lookers' I have ever seen

It was originally a Calypso Red GTE, it had an early Courtenay 1.6 8v turbo conversion which got featured in MAX power sometime in 1995(?) which was the inspiration behind me having mine done.
Then it was LET'd with a full custom purple repray & the Alessio's etc followed by the leather & matching purple cage before it got sold.
As Keith says, it was featured in the 1st copy (issue #1) of Total Vauxhall along with Declan Burkes mk1 Nova aswell.

Cant get into the member chat dave to have a look. Would be nice to have some recent pictures of it to see what state its in these days. I remember speaking to mark at trax 2002 and he said he'd like to have it painted again, but a year or so later he sold it.
Keith
I'm intrigued too as to what was wrong with it. Someone who can read it post it up here please.

when i saw it last it had three flat tyres the exhaust was on the floor, it had green mold on the seats and most of the paint hand come off the roof and bonnet. It did round ok but i could not of driven it home and the lad still wanted ?4500 for it. I did here that it had been stolen and burnt out but i don't know how true this is

Just to Revive the thread -
This was stolen off Karl Rowntree's Facebook (sorry Karl!!)
Think he took this photo at Trax 2007, so the car is still alive! And looks in pretty reasonable condition too (bar the missing grill!)

Anyone else any further Information?

If I remember correctly from a conversation with Jon that when they done the 2ltr turbo it was actually before the LET was even out and was based around an XE.

Some of the early photos of A16VTB showed a different tophat, maybe thats why?
However I think A16VTB was converted in 1993, and there was cavalier turbos around then.

As said, early pics of A16V TB.
Different top hat, and running a courtney exhaust manifold/turbo, not a KKK turbo.

They used to wrap the air flow meter in a inner tube to stop crap getting at it! Worked fine.
