Nova thrash @ Bruntingthorpe was a feature for TV mag, was a dozen Novas with various different engines being timed over 1/4 mile, mile, 0-60 and top speed.
Was a belter day out, top cars and a top bunch of folk
:thumb:
Got a few pics that i'll post up at some point.

AA came for us at about 6.45, had a few games of pool in the local pub and a drink while we waited.

Head has lifted i hope causing the gasket to fail and ramming 2.2 bar of pressure through the water system and out of the header tank!

Either that or the block or head is cracked. All will be revieled tomorrow morning!

No Jim!!

Sure he had his reasons though....

Unsure why the 1/4 mile times were generally poop, the surface wasnt ideal etc, but still surprised why there was no 12's (was there?)

I will get pics up later, but they aint the best!

I managed a 5.4 to 60 and 149mph (before I got scared), which wasnt bad with virtually no sprint experience and on road tyres!

Who won, I mean the pool games of course!

Ecotec results were 0-60 = 7.2 secs, 1/4 mile 15.5 secs, end of run terminal speed = 136mph.

It should be noted that if you know bruntingthorpe the first half of the straight rises and the last half slopes down. This doesn't help 0-60 and 1/4 miles but it does wonders for top speed :thumb:

Well well, me and Iain must have been jinxed too as we broke down on the M1 near sheffield on the way home. It must have been midnight when we got back to Iains and then had work to do getting his Nova up his steep drive lol Cue lots of winching using a wratchet and strap! I didn't get home till 1am and had been up since 3.30am

All makes a rememberable day though lol I enjoyed myself, even more gutted seeing everyone going horsing up the strip and not having mine there too! Was nice to put a few more names to faces and just have a good look at the awesome cars on show. It was a top day and top lads too :thumb:

Hope it isn't too bad Iain and Rick!

Hi

Was a good day and again nice to put some faces to names.
Just like to say thanks to the guy who's car came on trailer (sorry i dont know your name) for helping me out with the bolt at end of day.

I came to go home and i had a box full of neutrals!!
The 'S' shaped quick shift linkage where it is held to gearbox with a pin that had either come out or snapped. Stuck a bolt in it and coaxed it home up the M6. Got me home so thanks.

My times were 134 top speed (not bad for a straight cut box)
0-60 was either 5.4 or 5.7 cant remember!! Not bad considering i fluffed every launch. Too much wheel spin!!

Shame about Ricks as was really looking forward to seeing that one........Maybe next time.

Cheers

Ian

tbh i thought you did 6.4 0-60 Martin, as you were terrible on your timed runs lol, much faster when you had more practice. It definitely felt faster, thanks for the pasenger ride too, much appreciated, will give me a reason to pull my finger out.

What a good day! I run the indy sports on the front, they were definately not a good choice on the gravelly Brunters. I kept switching the nitrous off in 3rd and taking foot of the go pedal.
My result were:
0-60: 4.9,4.9,4.8
Top speed: 137 (Had more to go but lifted)
1/4 mile: 13.X (What ever it was, was crap, this was due to me going more for 0-60, and trying to save the nitrous for that reason)

Good to meet some new/old faces again:)
Big thanks to Dougie once again, good day out:)

I have done track day on Maxsport RB5 which i think were similar to what you had yesterday.

Probably better than normal road tyres but not upto Yoko AO48 or Toyo R888.
If you can squeeze either of them on i would.

Not a great tyre so I have heard. If your looking for that 'type' of tyre (which I was) I can highly reccomend the Hankook Ventus Z209S. I'm running the T70 compound which is great for trackday use. They arn't as expensive as some of the others either. But you may struggle finding a supplyer. Try any rally boys you know if you do have trouble.

Anyway looks like a good day out, shame about the breakages though but these things happen.

Yeah top day out! Mucho laughter and all excellent cars! Big thanks to dougie and the tv team for hosting the day. Shame there was only one small block present though, but good job done by mark all the same though!
Good to put faces to names/user names too!

Being a complete novice at this sort of thing, as was made clear by my starts lol My shed managed a best of 6.8 to 60, (can't remember the 1/4 time but i think it was 15.4?) and a top speed of 134. The standard 1985 dials couldn't keep up, they stuck still off the clock for ages after top speed!

Rich your top speed was impressive, how gutting to be that close to 160 though!
Also lovin the whine of martins box and carbs, heard flat out well after the car had disappeared into the distance!
Gutted for rick, hope it gets rebuilt fella.

Yep, I bottled it. Don't know why, just have no confidence with the Nova at the minute. I've not driven it for over a year, even though I try and kid myself that I'm desperate to drive it I find ways of getting out of it. It's all taxed, MOT'd and Insured, yet I'm putting off driving it by not putting fuel in it. Can't explain my reasons behind it, maybe it's my own way of saying it's time to sell up and move on, I just don't know.

There are more important things in my life than a Nova bash at Bruntingthorpe and I apologise if I let anyone down over this.

If you want to see what the damn thing will do, ill take it out next year against Dan. Seeing as we both lapped pretty much identical times in his car at combe in the summer, it should be a good example of what it can do.

Itll be easier to sell as well as it'll be bottlethroddied LMAO (thats if the rods stay in the block)

I would have loved to had mine ready to back up the small blocks although I was suprised Mark's was the only small block there. I was really keen to see the difference between some highly modded 1.6 8v against the rest of the bunch.

Thanks to Dougie and the TV teams for organising and hosting the day, mucho appreciated!

I did love Martin's SC box it sounded lovely! Spanish's Nova was simply awesome at getting the power down too and could tell a mile that had the fastest 0-60! In fact I was well impressed with every car on display and a tribute to how well Nova's can be built.

Think my best 0-60 was 5.8 ? and 1/4 mile was 13.7 ? wasn't to bothered about those times i just wanted to give it death down the 2 mile runway ... which i managed a few times !! was well chuffed with 159.66 but also a bit gutted, another .44 mph and i would've had a 160mph Nova !!
Think top honors went to ChrisS who managed 164mph !!

Aye, it was the green dash board that done it for me, lol !!

Tom, was tempted to boot it with you in the back but was thinking that you'd either get tangled up in the cage or go thru the back window, plus was running a bit low on fuel. Will quite happily take you for a blast if i bump into you again, i'll even let you sit in a seat this time.
Top pics as well.

I can send high res via msn,

replacement is a gsi replica, had to save some money these last few months so gsi had to final go it wasn't an easy choice get the sr on sunday if we have no last minute glitches

Rick didnt run, long story but Rich got 159? I think

Chris S
02-11-07, 10:39 PM
it depends what u call peak revs tbh,
8k revs is a hell of a lot more speed than 7k on a f28 at that speed

testing in my mates tigra we were topping the digidash out (157)in 5th gear.
thats using a little over 8k revlimit
