View Full Version : Fog lights
It seems like i run everything i do to my car past you guys first!
well it's true, a good bit of scrutiny and advice is always needed. especially when you lack experience!
a pair of hella 550s? (the rectangle ones) have come up. is it worth trying to fit them under the front bumper? are there brackets? or will they just get ripped off...

not sure about fitting? the actual bumper metal is just behind the number plate.
apologies for crude editing skills!
IIRC for MOT purposes there fitted to low in that pic^
EDIT: And they look sh1t lol
I used to live in Oxford, I can't remember much fog about that area, the usual idea is to fit them under the headlights so you get a decent beam pattern cut holes in the spoiler & recess them in. they look better & there is less chance of them being smashed off.
have to drive past farmoor resivoir every morning, with all the waterways about at the bottom of a hill, the fog there is often very heavy.
i did't want to have to cut the bumper about really :\ ill see how i cope without them perhaps!

Does it still cost 2p to go over the bridge???
You could make a bracket to fit to the front valance so the lamps are really low & you don't have to cut anything. try yellow headlamp bulbs (like they used to use in france.
5p! lol
i'll have a look at the set up over the weekend, see wheres a good anchoring point. thanks for the ideas.

I've got rectangular spots fitted to the front of my mk1, the mounts that came with them looked like this:

but they kept drooping, so I made myself some pikey ones:

... I'll be adding a second set to the same mounts underneath the existing ones soon, as well as spraying the front panel and mounts black and cleaning up that rust lol.

I'm guessing those are the standard lamps to fit the cutout lines in the bumper? I don't suppose you could list the dimensions of those lamps could you? :D

Think they're 180mm, they are for sale with the bumper and wiring, including a rare mk1 front fog switch.
