Theres no shame in that mate, you made a good move putting Astra brakes on it - if you gotta stop from 70 to nothing in 50m, its more than likely your brakes are up to it! Try GM discs and Mintex 1144 pads for fast road/light track use.

I think the general consencus is that the standard nova master cylinders don't really need upgrading unless you take your car on the track regularly and give it death. I don't even think they are enhanced on the GTE / GSI's but i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

Simply buy the best you can afford, brake are one of the more important areas on a car lol

GM discs are rated and normal mintex pads are fine.

Avoid Greenstuff btw:thumb:

My Spi brakes weren't actually that bad tbh.

On a budget, 256mm normal discs and decent pads are fine.

in my new found homo experience of the VX, it is a general consensus that you treat discs as consumables and spend on the pads.

so either GM discs or STD mintex discs, and Mintex M1144's for keen road/average track use, Pagids/Performance Friction Braking/Ferrodo's for more track than road.

Which mintex pads would be good for the ATE calipers? Had a look on ebay and potn and they list rather a lot of pads under mintex lol

Mintex M1144's are the keen road ones (M1144should appear after the pad part number)

I used GM discs & Greenstuffs for years & thought they were pretty good, room for improvement though.

Servo from a GTE/GSi & see if you can find a very early (E reg type) Astra GTE 16v master cylinder. There are 3 types, early with horizontal mounting holes, pre ABS but with diagonal holes & then ABS M/C with 2 ports. You want the horizontal mounting holes.

Hmm, will have to look again at the part numbers. I'm sure i couldn't see 1144 listed anywhere on potn though :(
