View Full Version : Max/Peak/RMS etc etc etc...
My HU is rated at 4x50watt, i want to replace the dash speakers, but can only find 10cm speakers at 30w RMS, does this mean the head unit would over power them, i.e. distorting them?
Are those speakers 30rms or rated 30w max?
30 watt RMS or 100 watt max i think.
just found these however: http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/7002.html
these are 50w RMS, am i right in thinking they would be perfect for a 50w channel headunit?
I thought headunits were 50w max output, if that is the case then the first speakers would be fine.
Don't expect FLI stuff to be any good. ?10 more will put you in the Alpine/Pioneer price range.
HU will probably be 50W max.
ah right, so anything around 30W RMS will be ok?
I thought FLI were supposed to be really good? it's a 3way system aswell, surely that's a bonus?
3 way isn't necessarily good.
FLI are a budget brand IMO
FLI are at the cheap end of even Halfords stuff. Get some of these for the same price, I bet they will sound better

If i was you id just spend a little more and get proper vibe gear rather than their budget version, on ebay they would probably be about the same price as the fli speakers!

i think the FLI speakers have an awesome sound for the money.. But; they are budget brand; so not always comparable to the Alpine etc etc..
30w RMS speakers should be fine with the 50w Max. headunit - still a little underpowered but a match enough..
Can I just point out that a '50w x 4' Headunit will give you about oooo 2.5watts RMS per speaker and distortion is caused by lack of control, which in course is due to a lack of power. Remember it's better to have more power and turn it down than matching and running flat out. Finally ALWAYS look at the RMS value, peak is a load of crap used for selling stuff.
EDIT: and Fli is owned by Vibe, so its a budget brand of a budget brand. ;)
good to have input! thanks!
one more question... my nova had 4 speakers in it already, my recently installed parcel shelf 6*9s are simply wired to the rear speakers that were already there. it sounds bodgy. is this bad? am i halfing the power to the 6*9s?

have you disconected the standard rear speakers and used the wires for the 6x9s or are you using the standard speakers and 6x9s
i'm using both, the 6x9s are literally jumped of the terminals on the oem speakers.
is this bad?

Very very naughty. Instead of your head unit driving into 4 ohms, they will in your case be powering into 2 ohms of resistance. Get the original ones disconnected and sound should improve.
the oem speakers are only 2ohms anyway? i have absolutely no idea about impedence... so i'll take your word for it. i'll take them out asap!
oem speakers well and truly bypassed.
thanks guys.
