View Full Version : how many should it have?
just been messing about with the nova and the b@stard boot fell on my head. not only an i puzzled about why it happened but my head hurts lol
so does anyone know how many of the lifters are supposed to be on the boot? as mine has 1 and its crap lol
LMFAO
Yeah, only one. Its probably died, not uncommon for boot lifters to go kaput. Just source another one from a scrapper.

im sure my mk1 has two.
You dont need two, one is fine.
Sure the lifter aint popped off the ball joint?
If not the seals must have gone in the lifter.
yeah i think they have. is that because i sprayed wd40 in it? lol

every time wd40 is mentioned at work there is a man who asks us the question why is it called wd40 and then proceeds to tell us must have heard it 10 times this year lol
Have you fitted a spoiler? Nova's with a spoiler have a different, stronger boot strut.

yeah i bought a boot with a wiper motor and a spoiler. that may be why. but it was fine before i sprayed wd40 in it.
will a new normal one off any nova do?
Can't see there being a difference.

corsas came with two, no doubt due the fact that they weigh as much s the moon. Just get another one that works, will be pennies.

Really, how you work that one out then. The spoiler aint made of lead and is not in any postion to have a weight bearing effect on the lid.

:thumb: :thumb: just what i was thinking craig , wouldnt of seen it to be cost affective to make more then one style . how meany novas dont have spoilers .
Well i'm obviously wrong then!! I didn't realise I said anywhere that it was made of lead.
Even though the one on my GSi actually says spoiler on the boot strut and the one I got from the scrapyard off a 1.0 was thinner and didn't and wouldn't hold the boot up.

strange! mine are both the same :(
Mk1 spoiler is quite heavy IMO - not sure about the Mk2 one though.
Fitted an SR spoiler to my old 1.2 tailgate and the strut definately had issues holding the boot up. It used to sit a few inches lower, putting the lock right at head height lol
