Anyone with any pics and measurements of the chassis leg mod for an XE bay please. Ive never done one before and Im not 100% of how big & what bit of the chassis leg I have to re-work.

Mike.

Cut along yellow lines, and if you dont have enough metal you may need to add a small plate in where the red bit is:

However i have seen a better way, which left a really factory finish, which was to heat the panel up with a blow torch and simply bend the panel in. looked well good.

This is what we done on my mates XE (also same on my LET) cut and box'd it, cutting and boxing it also gives you plenty room to get the alternator belt on and off, i wouldn't of thought just whacking it will give enough clearance to get the belt off ??

the chassis leg isnt straight so boxing it isnt really required as the extra inch you have at the front edge is miles away from the belt.

You can see the angle a little here, onse your inline with the cam cover theres loads of room.

The other thing that can help is using a smaller 'nator belt, as it pulls the alternator further in (im using a 1.0 nova one (900a from halfords))

Yup its the same for an 8valve , i jus cut the top line marked out , knock it in then weld it up ........ simple!

LOL yep that was the 1st XE of mine.. Id never welded b4 so was completely useless, 80% of it was just bits of metal sitting on the panel, no penetration at all. Fortunately its improved alot since then!

You can come and have a mine (ooo-er) and take some measurements at the next meet if you like, its only 5 mins from Cannock...
Here's the best pic i've got to hand:
