Hello to anyone who knows me,

Anyways I have a rally car (Nova Sport) that really needs a new engine

The calibra is a 2.0 but I think its 8v if its 16v I will pee my pants and let you all know tomrrow, my question (at last) is

Should I put the engine in my Sport??? If so who wants to do it??? and how much is it goig to cost me!!! :thumb:

lol this is wierd, u wanna ruin a genuine sport with a 20NE/XE???
Ide say either sell the sport to someone who will do it up properly and get yourself a tidy normal shell and put cally bits on that, or just sell the cally bits off to fund restoring the sport properly. :-)

There aint much sport bits left to be honest only the shell and the engine, I do understand what your saying hence I think I might sell the Sport and just concentrate on the cosworth I have got. Might just buy a cheap Nova a put the 16v lump in it tho for track days :thumb:

Oh and thats why in my first post I was asking for advice BIGS!!!

IMHO sports are a sum of their parts. Yours is now really just a white nova shell with sport graphics. Not really something id be worried about 'ruining' as its been stripped and caged anyway LOL

Dont listen to these pansies, whack a proper engine in it, and come out and have some fun!

for the record the ecotec isnt a bad engine..... its only let down by cheap/nasty sensors.

slip some TB's and DTA/MBE on there and it will be proper fun

This is the sort of advice I need! when I get a chance of a 16v lump for ?50 I needed to know what people think. I have had little experience in the 16v engine TBH...like has been said if its an ecotec engine is it worth using or just sell it on and maybe fit something a little different in my Sport. :thumb:

This is why I asked the question, your reply Throttlebody is exactly what I want to know. As you can see from the pics there is very little Sport parts left I sold them all on to a guy restoring a Sport so at least they went to good use!!!! The dash has a hole in it (not done by me) and the only genuine part is the bottom end which needs rebuilding  Even the Sport graphics are mostly missing.

I guess the shell and the twin 40's are the only oringinal bits and the shell is only a Base model.

more comments like this please!:thumb:

you compete with it?
If so then you will need a baad ass spec 2L to be remotely competative...

Hi Si - longtime no see - hope all is well!

I'm going to be a dissenting voice.

The shell came out of the factory intended to be a Sport. It'll always be one - there aren't many about and i think its a shame to "*******ise" it with an XE. They were the "special ones" when it comes to Nova motorsport heritage.

Fair enough go ahead, its a free world and all that and you'll be fast, but make no mistake it'll just be yet another nova/corsa/cav/astra/escort/mini/kit car/you name it with the ubiquitous 2.0l XE in- ie nowt unusual - everyone knows about them and TBH its not suprising they're fast -2.0l engine in a 750kg shell- its not rocket science.
Walk round any remotely related Vaux show and they're everywhere - its got proper tedious.

So ner to all you big blockers droning on about XE's - boooooring. Change the record :p

:D

si, didnt mean youre 1300 wasnt competative... but in class im sure you can appreciate that a 2.0 with a simple build/spec wont touch a ?10K engine etc...

trackdays are totally different lol, dar proves that ;)

Charles i agree (although im one of "them") i do also think it's really nice to see somthing different, and if i was building a car for show use i would opt for somthing other then a xe.
But for cheep solid track day action a standard(ish) xe is an easy option, as you know, lol im not going to try tell grany how to suck eggs..:D

All said Hence my mate did this

http://www.pngclub.com/forum/viewfeaturecar.php?ref=2953

He bought all the engine and ecu and most parts of neil (NovaNeil) of here
the reason he spent twice the amount it would coast for an xe conversion was he didnt want to be just another nova owner with an xe nova etc etc..

(the car is soon to be going back to gsi kit,and change of wheels, bit of body work done etc)

I whent out in this car the otherday and i could not stop laughing for ages,it's small light and so much fun when the turbo kicks in:D ..

So my view on things is...

If your track daying the shell and are not fussed about it being a spot shell then do as you please..but if you wish to keep it somthing "special" then restore it to a full sport spec etc.

Hey Charles (Legend) long time no speak nice to hear from you

Anyways Im going to rebuild that 1400 bottom end I thnk I got through you, and fit that to the Sport, keep it a bit origional hey!

So I have a 20 16v Ecotec Engine with nothing to do with it

I dont know much about Ecotek Engines are they any good for anything?

Anyone with a link to info comparing engines and engine codes or anyone wish to give me a school lesson???

evening, i am alive but only just, i have had some serious work loads and only been on to keep things in check breifly :O the last 3 weeks or so due to no days off work.

 thought it was odd i didnt see you at combe, must have had my blinkers on :( although i did see your missus and said hello which really baffled me lol lol . Will have to catch up again soon at some point as i have some interesting idea's for the new season you may be interested in :thumb:

I'm going to sit on the fence with this one as i am oldskool and agree with what charles says (hence i have had mine for farrrr to many years) and yet i also realise and accept the benefits of the more modern approach. I to will have this same issue when mine finally dies and will struggle to decide what to do.

Id agree with you if the car was standard, but the thing has all the internal seat brackets gone and a cage welded in it. A valver isnt exactly going to make it any more 'non retrievable' lol

Next time i see you im wearing my 'Big Blocks Rule' t shirt im having made especially lol

Have you thought of possibly putting a 1.6 8v in there on carbs or maybe a 1.6 16v?

I had my nova sr around combe at eurofest and loved how it handled but it just didnt have the pull down the straights imo. :(
