Well i have been back on the road for 1 day and i already have a problem :(

Batterylight and (!) light came on (handbrake light) while i was driving home then totaly lose of live stalled and had to push it off some lights :( lucky i called my mate and dad and we jump started it and all went well ( i drive it home on my sidelights to keep a little bit of eletric in the battery) The battery light and the (!) light was still on until i got home.

When i turn the ignition off all the lights go off, i thought it would be the battery so i have changed that and the problem is still there. Am not very good with injection cars as i have only had a 1litre carb nova so any help would be greatful :)

And also i know this is nova fourms but i trust your judgement and expertie's (if that is how you spell that lol) so help a ex nova person out :)

And no i wasnt thrasing it or anything :) It is a M reg Vauxhall Corsa SRI cheers

Battery light means the alternator is not charging, get someone to test the alternator. dont want to ask a stupid question but there is an alternator belt on it and its not come off or anything?

Earth problem. Put a new g/box to earth strap on it.

Check all the other earths too, battery to chassis & any others in & around the engine bay. Get a battery specialist to check the alt is charging as it should too as a precaution, but the handbrake lamp staying on sounds like a earthing issue.

Corsas dont have a gearbox strap.
The only engine earth is the thick one from the starter motor bolt to the battery negative terminal.

If the batt light is on, then the alternator isn't charging correctly.
Could be damaged main charge wire from the alternator, or the alternator itself.

Do the lights dim/go off when you rev the engine/

They aren't all the same, some have different belt drives.

Is your alternator a single thin belt? Or like a long wide belt?
