Ok guys. I pulled up to a junciton, but as i pulled away, the car would not move. I can now put it into gear, with the engine running without putting my foot on the clutch. Sounds like the clutch has gone right?

But if i put it in gear and give it some revs, the speedo reads as if i was actually driving.
Is it the clutch or the g/box?

I need to know asap as if it's the box i'm just gunna get a new car

forgot to mention, it's a 2.0i 8v astra GTE engine with F16 c/r box. If that helps anything. Ta

you checked stuff like driveshaftsd, cause if the speedo is regsitering it would imply the diff is turning (ie the box and clutch are both okay)

yup dead shaft or cv..... put it in 5th and look underneath with it running... see if a shaft is spinning

spinning = snapped chaft or busted cv

Rather than risk it jumping off if somthing miracolously engages, first try jacking it up and spinning the wheels, you can then see if they are spinning the shafts/inner cvs or not.

Common fault on the valver is to muller the outer shafts, usually goes around the circlip first as thats the weakest point.

it won't jump off in 5th with the hb on it will stall in a matter of inches

inches is all it take to hurt if you are under the car at the time though.

in front of it with your head right down underneath the bumper looking at the shafts?
Its upto you mate, but jacking it up and spinning a wheel by hand sounds a lot safer to me!
