A while ago I asked what exhaust would be the quitest to fit my 2.0 litre nova. As magnex was not available anymore the recommendation for quietest system was a mongoose system. After purchasing, modifying and fitting the system I found the exhaust still too loud even just above tick over. For now I have been running round with a 1.2 nova back box.

I have contacted mongoose's technical expert who advises that the mongoose rear box is a straight through box and will be noisy on a 2.0l engine. I have looked at some alternative's and are left with the following options:

1. Custom made rear stainless box around ?150
2. Fit a O.E. GSI spec rear silencer for ?55

Will a GSI rear box be too restrictive with a 140BHP engine or should I spend / waste even more money on the system?

Iainell's eurorallye system sounds pretty nice, and is quiet at tickover, what about something along those lines?

Or getting an astra/cally/cav backbox modified to fit a nova?

Yeah the EuroRallye systems sound cool, the reason for that tho is the backbox is massive.

Pretty much all aftermarket exhausts are straight through boxes.
My old cars powerflow backbox was straight through.

It depends what you call loud tho./

My DC2 had a titanium tanabe system and decat and that was 115db! thats loud!!!!

Best bet is to try ask powerflow to put another box in somewhere to tone it down a bit!

I wanted mine nice and quite so I had a custom stainless system made with three silencers. Its now 91db@4,500rpm

So my advice would be to put another silencer in the system.

Seems the best solution all round as well since he can keep the system that he is currently running. An extra silencer will make it quiter and hes not replacing components that have already been purchased.

as long as its not too restrictive itll be fine, mind you with a little more back pressure he could gain a little torque

My reference to the Eurorallye back box not being stainless was because for the extra ?25 I could get a custom stainless back box.

Getting the middle box replaced (already 2 small silencers fitted) will probably be cheaper option (?50) but specialists say rear silencer would be best (yes they get more money). Does anyone think a GSI rear silencer would be a bad idea. It should be noted I also would like to lose the overly large 3.5" tail pipe.

Anyone want to purchase a new mongoose back box, done 300 miles?
