I tried putting mine on the underside of the battery tray behind the dash, but the loom wouldnt bend and I didnt want to risk breaking wires.
So mine just sits on the footshelf, looks quite tidy as you cant see loose wires, just the ecu plugs.
Tho a c16 ecu is bigger than the x16 one.

Yup.
I have seen one fitted to the shelf so it must be possible.
Another option is take the loom through the pass side and put the ecu behind the gearbox.

I've just screwed mine in permanently on the passenger side.

The loom enters the cabin through the servo bracket & I've used a 1200 SPi ECU bracket to hold the C16 ECU above the glovebox/under the bulkhead. The captive threads were already there on my H reg shell to use the 1.2 brkt.

I would offer to get pics but the glovebox is back in & the ECU is nowhere to be seen.

Why not just make a hole on the passenger side. The XE is only done tidily if you get the hole cutter out!
