its a more restrictive version of the same engine. u dont get as much BHP or torque.

i think you loose about 10-15bhp

BUT the head wont go porus if you port out the restrictions. so if you know that your gonna port it get the ecotec :)

BEng (hons) just isnt enough, i need a Msc too!

I read somewhere that the ecotec engines werent as strong as the red top 16v-ers and were designed to do what they were intended to do. meaning they are not as tolerant to modifications

they were brought in to replace the old one when the emissions ruels were changed

not all 20xe's have pourus heads mate. basically they are crap engines and simply a waste of time and money get about same bhp as fitting a 2litre 8v. if ur gonna port the head, lol, that made me laff, like its gonna make a huge difference on an ecowank anyway.

just get a 20xe and be done with it

L shaped spark cover = 150bhp even if it has ecotec on it

I wouldnt bother with an ecowank personally, youll spend moer money on getting it ported etc to ty and get standard XE power than you would buying a spare head in case yours goes proous on the XE!

Ultimately youll get more power from the XE too.

in my opinion the xe is one of the best engines ever made
