well ive never posted a thread on here for a while...so i thought id share my new project with you all...

bought it about 6-7 months ago... mk2 1400 SR with webber 32/34

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/Photo149.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/Photo146.jpg

then added a few little touches..

new wheels..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/Photo158.jpg

then i changed the rear lights, exhaust and painted the wheels intime for its first show..billing 2007..

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA70833.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA70839.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA70915.jpg

coming back from billing i had a few problems..head gasget went, bottom end started knocking..and i was reversed into when i got home..dinting the quater..

after some serious thinking the project began.. consisting of some rather large changes over the next year or so..

1600 T40
2 x GM quaters
repray in flame red
1/2 leather retrim
smoothed

and a few other little touches..

so the stripping began..

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71186.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71189.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71192.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71197.jpg

a few bits ive already sourced..such as 1/4's, brand new 1600 engine..

keep an eye out for updates...although they wont be very frequent..im in no hurry..and want everything to be done properly..

cheers for looking..

Karl

Please keep the vinyl on the sides! It looks fantastic as it is.

well funny you should say that...because its one of the things thats currently going through my head..

the original plan was to remove all vynal..with grey gsi bumpers...but also keep the original bumpers for a change...but now when i look at how rare and hard the original vynal is to come by i dont think i will be able to replace it...however i was going to just replace the B pillar vynal and leave the bottom red..maybe some GSi skirts..

or another option is to have it painted on...which imo looks **** most of the time..and i think it could be a let down..

but i guess i'll cross that bridge when i come to it...which will be after christmas

Could you not get a sheet of replacement vinyl from a graphics shop? It would look similar and the edge would be covered up by the bump strip anyway. :thumb: Removing the vinyl and fitting GSi skirts would make it look like any other one out there. :(

cheers for the comments..

pick my engine up at the end of the month...then on the look out for some 40's..

however..the engine is a 1600 spi.. (cav or astra? :S) which ive been told had a very restrictive head...so think i might look for a billy head..

oh and btw phil...still up for giving me a hand with these 1/4's? lol

Nice buy.
Looks a very good shell.

I agree with the vinyl comments, it "ties" the bumpers together, and makes it stand out from the crowd.
Plans sound good.

cheers adam ( sure thats your name lol )

yes shell is mint...just a shame about someone dinting my 1/4.. becuase the rear arches are mint also... but id rather replace the entire thing than use a repair panel.. be better in the long run imho..

ive tried using the search bar..but was some what unsucessful.. im after some WIP pics of engine bay smoothing...i had some on my pc somewhere but cant find the bloody things..

any help much appreciated..

well a little update..

since watching some builds closley over the past year...ive always loved the look of an empty smooth bay... so i thought id set about the bay as my first job..

before..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71202.jpg

getting ready for weld..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71203.jpg

welded blanking plates over certain holes..(where loom comes through bulkhead mainly..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71205.jpg

started De-seam sealing the bay too ready for stich welding..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71206.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71207.jpg

then a skim of filler...ready for sanding and another skim..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71208.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71209.jpg

also got rid of the washer bottle bracket...as its no longer needed..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a50/novaco/STA71210.jpg

arranged to pick engine up at the end of the week..fingers crossed..!

got to finish smoothing the bay...get the interior out then get my quaters so my mate can start fitting them..

moneys abit tight atm...doing a few things to change the look of my corsa..

till next time...

cheers for looking

Karl

Smooth bay should look good, are you going to smooth over the seams after welding too?

Nice looking car, shame about the drive home from Billing but you are using it to your advantage...

Keep the vinyl PLEASE!

Look forward to more updates & keep at it!

I disagree on the smooth bay comments.
I prefer the original look of the seams etc.

Smoothe/fillered bays always make me think ROT BOX! And yours is seriously clean!

Smoothed bays do go against the method behind original or unnmolested.

Mint chassis legs are a thing of beauty! Like an oiled up ladies legs!

cheers for the comment will/craig..

i know people may think im stupid...and that the number or 'mint' novas is becoming less and less...and i can understand why people say keep it original...and i must admit..theres nothing i like more than to see a MINT original nova..(especialy mk1 SR's theres just something about them)

when i planned this project i wanted majority of the car to look original...with a few subtle(smooth) finishing touches to make her my own...hence the bay for example..

maybe when the project gets into later stages i may change peoples minds..

anyway cheers for the comments and keep them coming!
