ive got hold of a Cav GSi from my boss, and i want to put it into my nova. Tha cav engine has been chipped. I just want to know, apart from the suspension and brakes that will need changing and maybe the engine mounts, what else will i need to do to get the engine into and running into the nova. What will i have to do and how costly would it be. Seeing as i got the cav for ?200 as an insurance write off from rear end damage. Im not too bothered about the price, i just want it in there.

Cheers lads.

you need the driveshafts, and your engine bay seam welding

look on www.valvers.com it will give you a good idea as to what needs doing.

Main points are: Drivers side engine mount need modifing, driveshafts, exhaust need modifed, seam welding. the rest is easy, well not to bad.

the valvers site is down for a bit.

u might want to put a full nova sr loom into ur sri to make wiring easier, upto you, its possible on the sri loom just more messing about

you want to fit a cav gsi into ur nova??? unless u have the cav crushed and cubed it just wont fit its twice the size of the nova.

you dont need to seam weld ur engine bay, just its prefered that it be done as it will last longer.

drive shafts, well nova gte ones with mk2 astra big block 1600 inners fit an f20 and them cv's are how much ste???? cheap????? yep u guessed it. dril spot weld of drivers side mount off and re-weld 1.5 inch lower and grind lip off back nova mount then thats the mounts. need bottom pulley machining ie removing some of the power steering part as you dont need that and it just catches under bottom of chasis leg other wise. also bang chasis leg in with big ass hammer so altinator pulley dont catch. need to either mod manifold to fit nova system, get (yawn) powerflow to make u a system to fit or make one urself. cut sfi box down and re seal the back on

take heater matrix out and cut the left side exit pipe down so that th metal pipe is inside the car and attach and feed a rubber pipe out of it.

wiring isnt really all that hard to be honest as long as all lives and ignition lives and earths are connected it will start

Thats a pretty good run through, only thing barnes didnt mention is the tank, you need to get a gte (or other injection) tank on it ideally as they have the swirl pot and also you will want to use the cav gsi fuel pump.

cav gsi pump is the same as nova gte

no need to cut the sfi box

well technically it will run fine on a carbed tank, mine did only when it got low on petrol did it suffer.

nova gte pump has higher pressure reg on it ste than a cav one. it runs same pressure as a turbo pump. the actual main body of the pump is the same though

i have no pressure reg on my 2.5 vectra pump

so... Engine mounts, I DONT WANT COMPETITION HARD mounts...

would I be ok to get NEW vauxhall NOVA rubber mounts for the gearbox and righthandside, and a competition one to lower the lefthandside down from Novatech. Is this lefthandside one a mount and a bracket, or do I again use a standard bonded mount with the modified bracket??

(and use windscreen bonder to stiffen up the inside of the other two standard rubber mounts??)

...Its amazing how I keep confusing myself!!! :?

competition mounts don't lower anything

Problems with the pictures Ste...

Ok, so I get either Novatech or Carquip bracket to lower engine.

Then get three engine mounts... All new standard Nova items?
or does one of them have to be Astra 16v mount??

(all dosed with windscreen bonder?? ...dont want competition ones simply cos I dont want any rattling/shaking/vibrating that they bring. A little natural stuff is ok.)

the novatech one is more of a spacer bracket. the windscreen bonder is a cheap and easy way to make the mounts a tiny bit stronger.

but yeah, all new nova rubbers for the lot

FANTASTIC!

now its getting clearer  lmao
(god, some people are so hard to get through to sometimes!)

So I'm gonna get three new Nova engine mounts from Vauxhall.
can I get a discount from anywhere? (I know peeps get trade prices on here)

Is there any preference for the Carquip bracket/spacer or the Novatech item?

Novatech or Carquip bracket, which is better?

any body get trade price for the engine mounts for me, pls

barnes

carquip ones are probably better due to it being the whole metal bracket to fit into a nova n/s mount. whereas the novatech ones for 35 quid just allow you to bolt the std astra bracket up to the nova rubber by lowering the nova rubber.

i used the novatech ones, worked fine but i would have preffered the carquip ones.

discount???? theyre not exactly expensive in the first place mate
