is the engine std??? If my memory serves me correctly, gsi/gte rev limiter is set at 6000. I wait to be corrected.

Hi does the GSi have a rev-limiter, if it has what rpm is it at? A couple of times i've missed a gear and the rev needle rockets round deep into the red and doesn't seem to hit anything.

Cheers all

stupid git, it wont limit the rpm if u do that. it will only limit the rpm if u put ur foot down accelerating, it cuts power to the dizzy. but if ur using the engine to slow down like that the rev limiter wont stop that happening, and there goes a set of valves + more

my SRi cuts in the limit at 6500rpm. I would assume the GSi would be the same

No, I don't mean I use the gears to slow down. I mean't when I change up a gear really fast, and sometimes miss it I still plant my right foot which is the equivalant of acclerating hard in neutral and watching the rev needle fly into the red.

The rev limit can't be at 6000rpm cause I can accelerate past that without it hitting anything.

LOL get Twin 40's and rev to about 7500- 8000 or more

if the engine you will have a limiter just keep your foot down in second or somet and wait until it hit the limiter, the whole car will jolt when you do.

limiter?????? wots one of them lol, my 1600 aint got one anymore, but then i just change at about 7000-7100 to keep it safe lol ;)

Bends were made to rule and rules were made to bend

I don't fancy keeping my foot down in second to see what happens, cause its Turbocharged, and I don't think it will do it any good.

if its a turbo u will have a modded ecu, probly the limiter has been taken off or set very high?

get it on a rollin road and get a power graph printed out, look at where it peaks then dont go much higher then that cuz you'll be better changin gear.

The ecu is standard. The peak power is at 5800rpm.

b careful missin gears like that i missed a gear in my sri it did ?400 worth of damage; needed new valves, valve guides and cylinder head work. Rev limiter should kick in bout 6500rpm

My GSi limits at 7000. But the cut out is that fast you dont feel it then the car is moving. Not like my old 1.2. You knew it was cutting out. :)

it limits about 6750 and yes it will always hit the limiter at this rpm regardles if ur not even moving so whoever decided that it doesnt when ur changing down gears is wrong. its there for a reason, ie to stop revving the engine so hard that you break stuff.

if its turbod and the limiter has been taken off, id look into getting it put back on.

why do you not want to keep ur foot down until you find out where it is???

i had my 2litre 16v revving past 7500 on carbs just coz it could

i reved my std 1.4sr to 7600 = new engine needed
my 16v limits at 7200
my 1.0 gets valve bounce
