I am having difficulty with fitting front coilovers (still). I have put it back to my supplier (and ultimately manufacturer) to see why. The problem I have is even with the 13" wheels fitted on the car the tyres rub on the coils.

How do I know the 13" wheels I have are indeed original or OE spec? The coilover kit is for any spec of nova so if anyone could tell me any original wheel + tyre sizes (13" or 14") then I could confirm my wheels. Part of this data maybe in a nova user manual.

P.S. have tried 14" wheels and 16" alloys.

Thanks in advance.

If the wheels are stamped GM & have et49 on them they are original.

Perhaps you are running them too low or havent set the ride height yet?

failing that try some wheel spacers (5mm). Its not uncommon tbh.

The original 3 spokes are 5"x14" btw.

What offset are the wheels you've been trying? Have you tried a 5mm spacer? What tread width and profile tyres have you been trying?

I've got 16" alloys to go on, my point with the supplier is that as they obviously aren't guaranteed to go on with aftermarket wheels, they should at least go on with standard wheels.

I probably will fit spacers in time but due to the design of the coils / extended length of the strut the supplied helper springs are neccasery. Running with these helper springs means that the coil comes a lot lower down than say the likes of AVO. And thus the problem is worse than your average coilovers. So once I can fit standard size wheels I can then tweak things to fit my 16" wheels.

Wheels are indeed stamped GM ET49 tyres are 165/70R13 - need to know if this is standard issue so I don't look a pratt when quibbling.

Humnnn....I don't believe that to be the original tyre size. I'll have a look in the garage later, where I have 5 as they rolled out of the factory.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Thanks, Anything written in the nova instruction manual (nothing in haynes) referring to tyre widths?

according to http://www.pneus-online.co.uk/equivalency-tables-advice.html the ideal tyre width for a 5" wide rim is 165-175, but you can go from 155-185.

Do the coilovers have assister springs on them? If so, remove them and see what it's like. If it still hits you may need different length springs. Even after all that you may still need to run spacers.

yes they have helper springs, if you remove them and set the ride height anywhere near low the coils become loose when the struts are fully extended. Has anyone had dealings with cobra suspension?
