better how, you can't just say a 16v is better without saying why.

I have a 2.1 8v and my brother has a 16v. They are very different.

The 16v is Quicker, yes but the 8v is more torquey and lighter.

My 2.1 8v is running at 150bhp @ wheels and my bro's 16v is 160bhp @ wheels with similar mods to both engines so its entirely up to you.

Also the 8v is cheaper to insure and cheaper to service and repair if it goes wrong as well. Plu syou can pick up an 8v for half the price of a 16v but its up to personal preference.

The 8V isn't actually more torquey is it?

It just feels more torquey because its torque curve is quite lumpy, the 16V will be smoother all through the range, more torque but just not as noticable.

actually its the same work to put an 8v in as a 16v due to the fact that they both have the same bottom end etc and therefore still need to mod chasis leg for altinator and blah blah cant be bothered typing it out

the 8v is not as tourquey as the 16v at all

if ur making 150bhp @ the wheels that suggests uve got about 180 at the flywheel so i take it this is a carbed engine????

also ur brother is making about 190bhp at the flywheel so this cant be on injection either. does the 8v benefit from being on carbs a lot????

just asking coz my mate is putting a 2200 frontera lump on twin 48's into a nova for a laff

performance figures, 126bhp from astra gte 8v, 130 from cav sri but thats just due to a different bore exhaust system, same engines except the code is different, but they are internally the same and the ecu is the same. 115 from 2litre i cavs and 2litre sri astras, dont even bother with this engine

The valver lump revs happier, is more ecoomical and moer powerful, the 8v is more torquey at VERY low revs, but from there on in the valver pisses it all the way up the range.

8v heads dont go porous and it will be cheaper to insure though.

LV insurance = +5% for either engine

they are quite fussy about not covering young drivers though.
Best bet is to phone round first, but most comanies wil lbe cheaper with the 8v

These are official figures on the un-modified engines into nova GTE's with the conversion and testing done by Hackman Motorsport. But i reckon they are bollox cos my 8v lump is standard apart from a large bore exhaust but i have hit 135mph (list is 126mph) and rolling roaded 0-60 was 6.5sec. I melted my rear bearings doing it so if anyone know where i can get uprated bearings for the back of of nova then let me know. Ta
