erm... a rotary ?

pretty obvious. What other engine has a triangle instead of some pistons.

indeed a rx7, one of the rotors is totally mullerd, looks like it's sucked in some crap and distroyed the rotor

i was gonna say i hope ur fitting a new rotor

bosscav

needs a too much to warrent repair, new rotor, end plate, cylinder housing and middle plate. cost more than a new engine to fix, we were just investigating what happend, just rebuilt it to send all the parts back

Ive still not got my head round how the funk the crank gets driven.... I geuss its jsut oen of those things an engineer isnt supposed to know or understand (bar some crazy ninja in japoland)

The white bit in the middle is the offset lobe on the crank. I couldnt understand it at first either, but it does make sense after a short while.

Interesting

So techically its a 3 stroke, BUT there is one combustion stroke for each rotation of the crank, making it uuuber smoooooth.

Id still rather rely on a scooby engine lol

Actually its a 4-stroke, really.

Stuart

it follows the 4 stroke principles but obtains 3 stroke power output charateristics

True, it still sucks squashes blows and bangs, but it squashes at the same time as its blowing, at the same time that its sucking lol.

CLever stuff. And i believe the new gen engines (RX8) is a lot more reliable than the old RX7 variant?

Stuart

more reliable, yes.... but they drink oil more than your holy blocks!

The W4nkel was an amazing blind alley in the evolution of the internal combustion engine. It ruined a car company (NSU) & caused lots of big car companies to spend shed loads of dollars on patent licences for the technology. GM were looking at commercial vehicle applications. But in the end, thirst, reliability & the 1970's fuel crisis killed off most interest. Only Mazda & Norton Motorbikes actually made viable ones. I watched Johnny Herbert & Bertrand Gachot win LeMans in 1991 in a 4 rotor mazda prototype. The scream it made was incredible.

they carb up if theyre not thrashed all the time then wen you do give it some it breaks off resulting in fooked engine - remedy = give it some everyday lol

at least you dont need an oil change - just top it up as it never gets more than a month old lol
