Good afternoon all. Im currently building a 1600 8valve engine and want it to rev as much as possible (8500k if possible?). Does anybody know if the 8v cylinder head will flow enough? Ive got the bldensteil B+ head with the bigger valves. Can anybody tell me what deg of cam i shuld be using (car is for track use). Any help/advice is appreciated.

Many thanks

Stephen

Lol.
You will only need 8.5k rpm with some mental cam.
I hope you have a big wallet, as those revs would need steel rods/crank, forged pistons etc.

Why do you want it to rev as much as possible?
Will you be using it on carbs, or mapped management and the standard inlet+TB?

Ok will start again.Dont know what the lol was about though? I basically want to build an 8valve engine that will give me as much power/torque as possible. What parts do i need to be buying. I already have steel rods/arp bolts, bldenstein head. Please can you recomend me some pistons/cam/lifters i should be using. Money isnt too much of a problem but need to be realistic. I was planning on using the sbd multi throttle kit for induction (i have a set of 45's but are they not a bit old hat/guess work?).

Thanks

One word, FORCED. ;)

With 1598cc your never going to get decent torque in NA form. Due to physics.

will it be held at 8.5K or just see it now and then?

solid lifters are about ?250 (or make your own and shim them to the cam spec)
a decent grind catcam (say 305degrees) is ?200
springs and random bits needed would be another ?100

Definately mappable ign at that level of tune
45's are fine for a 1600 8V doing uber revs. ok oldskool but hey they work.

a bomb proof bottom end. steel rods, the crank might need swapping if you plan to live at 7.5K+ all the time, decent high cmpression pistons

and so on.

Thankyou stuart, as you can prob tell im new to all this but we all have to start somwhere. The engine will prob only see 8.5k now and again. Are solid lifters adjustable? I could prob get a set made at work but would prob need one to take a drawing from.

Thanks again stuart:thumb:

Solid lifters are adjusted by the size of the shim fitted.

So its just a case of turning a set of lifters to the standard height (or a bit shorter) from a decent spec steel. Or can anybody point me in the way of a supplier of solid lifters and matching cams.

i made my solid lifers.. was a bit of trial and error to get the right height but hey.

take a std hydro lifter. strip it down, whip about 5mm off the casing top. slide back together (without the springs but leave the oil ball and spring in) to desire height. weld two sides (tidy welding helps) and tadaaaaaa solid lifters that need shims.

we tested 3-4 with a sledge hammer to ensure the welds wouldnt fail :d

I still haven't grasped why 8500rpm is needed? the engine will be a cammy beast on the road & fairly gutless off cam. why not get a 1.6 16v. it will be much more powerful for a start.

prob best to jump on some rally forums/specialists; they'll have some know how; 1.6 8v is used a fair bit on that scene, to that extent.
