Ive got a 1.2 carbed nova and am making it into a road rally machine to enter into a 1300 class. I have cash to modify it but I dont know weather to bother upgrading to a 1300 engine. I want loads of acceleration and aint bothered about top speed so what should I do?

THANKS :)

Get a full copy of the regs stating what you need to do to the car to make it safe, roll cage etc.. if you havn't already? As for the engine the 1300 engine with a lower geared 1.0 5speed gearbox would be a cheap low geared rally option. The ultimate would be to fit a lower geared Limited slip diff which will improve traction and lower the gearing. As to whether you should go for the 1.3 engine, it's up to you, an engine swap would be fairly easy if you have the spare money?

what about if i put a final ratio of a 1.0, what 0-60 time can i expect if i have basic mods like exhaust, manifold and cam shaft

I could be wrong as I am a stage rallier but I thought that road rally cars had to be basically stock with virtually the only mods allowed being to the seats and belts?

If you can modify you want a 4.5:1 final drive that they fit to swedish astra vans if I recall correctly.

when i say road rally i mean stage rallying but only on tarmac, not this shit they do with speed limits.

what sort of acceleration and top end can i expect from the 4:5:1 final ratio

It will be quick of the mark but you will probably top out at about 90-100mph.
