View Full Version : tailgate, im confused? HELP!
right i have just picked up a smooth boot for my nova it wont fit proplerly? its a mk2 boot same as my car and the other two boots i have. the problem is when i close it the locking mech is to long and catches preventing it from closing but it doesnt on my other boots? confused yet? I AM!:cry:
Does it look any different to your other locking mech's?
If it does, just change it over!
nope doesnt look no different i have changed it round and it hasnt made any difference?
have the hinges been played with?
what on the tailgate? or the car?
dont think so looks fine ill have a look tomoz when its better light but i had this troulbe before with a mk1` tailgate, its weird?
change the lock an striker
adjust the steel pin thing sticking out the boot slam panel.
Adjust it to suit the position of the boot door lock :thumb:
just took a couple of pics now it doesnt even reach the pin to close? it lines up perfect all the way round the top hinges are fine ill upload the pics now

is the mk1 lock any different to the mk2?

Have you tried adjusting the hinges - Where they fasten to the shell - under the roof lining

i don't think adjusting hinges will fixs that have you got any clearer pictures of the bottom of the tailgate please ,is the tailgate gap even all the way round or does the tailgate touch anywhere please

Dave you can adjust the hinges i dont think? it lines up ok at the top though im ordering a new set of hinges just in case and gonna give that a go
How does the tailgate sit if you remove the catch? Does it foul the bumper or taillights?

you could try elongating to the holes in the boot catch this may give you the extra clearence or try gently adjusting the angle of the boot catch with a hammer and a piece of wood
