I have a K reg SRI and the engine seem to run cold most of the time except when in traffic, normally the needle is just above the cold symbol (blue bit) and i leave it to idle it goes up to about halfway and then the fan comes on, i think it may just be the thermostat that needs changing am i right? have any other novaa owners (sri in particular) the car has done 119,000 miles and is in good nick any ideas?
thanx

yes its very possible its the themostatic valve that sits next to the cam pulley (not the thermostat in the radiator).
not too important during the summer, infact it might b better, but id get it sorted at some time mate!
same happens on mine, i asked a mechanic mate and he said its supposed to do that its just how the engine operates. aslong as it don't go past halfway it should be ok.
Mate, the theromstat is broken. I had the same problem on every Vauxhall i have ever had and so have most people i know.
The problem is that the thermostat is stuck full open or part open, so you always get water flow to the radiator, hence temp just above cold all the time. That`s why when it is sitting at idle the engine warms up as there is no air cooling on radiator/water..
If i was you i would get it fixed, the engine and oil is never allowed to get to it true working temperature, so you get poor fuel consumption, poor performance and wear will occur..
I can`t remember off the top of my head but i think it is a bit of a bugger changing it as the thermostat housing bolts are hard to get to due to the cam belt housing. If it needs cam belt change do it all as one job..
hope that was of some help....
