i am looking to make a sound system in my boot of my nova..
i could do with seeing some pics of systems in a boot of a nova.
i have got plenty of wood/mdf and acoustic carpet..
i have got 2 6x9's in my parcel shelf at the moment but i am wanting more noise..
so what things should i go for, not wanting it to be to dear..
my idea is 4 6x9's, a sub and a amp.. now what size of sub should i go for and what size/power of amp etc..
post up some pics of your installs..cheers
Greg
A single 12" sub would be my choice.
I'd forget 6x9s with a sub tbh.
Just fit some decent components to the front, something like 5"/6" co-axials in the rear, then the sub can take care of the bass.

i want a 12'' sub definetly.. so what else? i like my 6x9's in the parcel shelf though..would two be ok with a 12'' sub? i might but some uprated speakers in behind the dash.. not wanting to see anything really apart from when i open the boot as i am want the interior to be standardish.
and what is co-axials?? just small speakers?
Greg
Ye, small 5/6" speakers.
6x9s are quite bassy, so best suited if you dont have any sub's.
6x9s on a parcel shelf with a sub below won't work as effectively as putting them elsewhere - they'll be vibrating air thats already being vibrated by the sub.

could make sub and amp power rates matched :) Ditch the idea of 6 by 9 's alltogether mate get some front compoments in custom door pods or fit some uprated speakers where your standard ones are (in the dash).
erm maybe some comp in the rear quaters ( you can make a mdf quater, so you have something soild to mount your speakers on) and well that should be plenty maybe a little 4 channel amp to power them and your well away :)

theres no need for to much bass in a nova because they vibrate so much and makes it sound pants unless ur going to sound deaden the boot? id got for a decent 12" sub and amp setup and some good components in the front and if you want some 6x9s.

imo the vibe cbr10 would make a good choice as I have one in the merc, 450w built in amp, very well built bit of kit, and doesn't cost the earth too. In fact you can pick them up for ?70 or so on gaybay. The merc has a solid bulkhead and fuel tank in the way and it still sounds good. I thinking of putting it he nova and custom building in the merc
As said the best setups are a set of components or co-axials in the front and a single sub in the boot, but unless you want low bass a set of decent comps amped in the front are perfect. If setup right they with give plenty of midbass (which is what most people think is bass) Then at a later date you can add another amp and a sub.
When you do go for a sub and amp your better off get a higher rated amp than sub, if the amp has more power it can control the sub better. Distortion 99% of the time is due to lack of power, eg, the cone is moving forward but the amp doesn't have enough power to pull it back, resulting in distortion or the sub reaching full excurtion.
Also look at the RMS ratings rather than the 'Peak' or 'Max'
EDIT: Components are seperate tweeter, midbass driver and cross over and
Co-axials have the tweeter mounted in the centre of the mid bass with either the crossover in line or seperate.

I bought the boxes ready made from a guy in Bradford.
Made from MDF and fibreglass and designed to fit over the wheel arch.
False floor to keep the cables out of sight.
A nice, cheap set up with great sound quality.
I also had JBL components in the front.
I never finished this, and it was poorly made, but it could of been quite cool:
