Afternoon all.

Has anybody ever removed a weld in rollcage, is it just a case of cutting a long all the welds and then re-assembling? Is it safe to do this? Cars only being used for track days so not being inspected.

Thanks in advance

Stephen

You mean cut it out at its mounting welds yeah?
It will be difficult to remove.
As long as you have good strong welds when refitting it i don't see a problem.

Thanks nathan, yeah cut in off its mounting points, but also on some of the joints as its been welded together. Anybody else?

How many mounting points does it have ? if its just the 6 then just chop the mounts from the floor & rear arches, be better off not chopping anything off the cage really. Are you scrapping the shell its coming from ?

Ahh ... was thinking that you'd be able to unbolt the front and rear halves once the mounts had been chopped, but i take it the whole thing has been assembled and welded in the car ?
If your scrapping the shell then whip the roof off and try and grind around the welds with a die grinder, could be a ball ache like but at least all the tubes will end up pretty much untouched, then it'll just go back together like it did origionally.
You'll be able to keep the main hoop & rear legs together, then just have to cut / grind the 2 side hoops, the top front bar & door bars off.
Have fun !!
