just got a new xe engine for 200 quid with loads of new bits like piston rings and oil piump and bearings and seals and head gasket kit
so im gonna chcuk the new one in so i have a mobile car
then rebuild my battered one with all the new bits
obviously got to buy some new pistons tho
Head may be a bit tasty too, although a skim and some new seats will probably do.

i was gonna get the head ever so slightly skimmed but only to get those lumps off as i heard you shouldnt skim the xe head
i want to keep this head as its a cocast one and the new engine i have is a late type from cav gsi, well at least i think its a late type not picked it up yet.
is there a benefit from getting large valves fitted and polished and ported would notice the difference

Not on a standard engine imo.
Nasty bit of damage there.
even on a "highly tuned" XE there is little point in bigger valves.. just get waisted stem std sized ones.
5bhp proved increas with bigger valves, but thats top spec xe

its obviously one of the final tweaking mods then to squeeze that last bhp out of it after the heavy mods.
so am i right in thinking bigger valves and posrting etc go hand in had with balancing and all the fine blueprinting
