would this stop my engine starting?

melted loom from battery to the starter/alternator. the red and brown wire is melted and not just the plastic protective stuff..

the engine was turning over very slowly and not starting..

From the looks of things, yes, as the red is for the positive terminal on the battery, and the brown is for the negative.

Yes, seeing as thats the main starter live wire, and the main earth.
