Take the sump back off and check that the oil pickup isnt blocked.

un blocked it before i put it all back together

The oil pressure sender is just after the oil pump, so its either a knackered pump, or a blocked pickup really.

before i changed the gasket it said 3 quarters but when you opened the cap there wasnt much oil there and the old lifters were badly gone im hoping its blocked are the actual pumps easy to change or hard you get oil pressure when you rev it up

How did you clean the oil pickup? did you remove it, or just pull stuff out of the end?

If you just pulled stuff out of the end then something might have got sucked up the pipe once you dislodged it, I'd remove it and clean it with a solvent and/or compressed airline.

Me thinks you used a lot of silicone sealent on the sump gasket, and its blocked the pickup pipe ;)

no sealent at all so i know it aint that

Maybe relief valve jammed.

??? the thing behind the bolt at the front of the oil pump

Yeah.
A big nut, with a spring behind it, and a valve.
Common problem on a xe.

what do you do with it take out clean and put back in anything to watch for spring flying off, never heard of this problem before

cleaned it and the hole put back together oil pressure goes up faster but is only just above the red on tick over if you rev it up to 2k it almost goes to 3 quarters now and slowly goes down as before it would fall rapidly, i read in the manual if you use the wrong grade oil then that could affect the reading he has got 2 quarters of oil in and an engine flush at the moment would that affect it

Did you clean the valve?

Pressure will be low on hot idle, the gauge should be at 3 quarters/full as soon as revs get to about 2k.

What grade of oil is in it? Too thin and you wont get the pressure.

yeah cleaned valve and the hole it sits in, i think before every thing was done lifters and gasket it was always on 3 quarters so its ok when its idles and its above the red? and goes upto 3 quarters when over 2k?

its 10 40 i think

The pressure will be low on idle mine sits at 1/4 and goes up to 3/4 when reving. Before i cleaned up the release vavle it used to sit at half and go up to full when givving it some.

Im using 10w40 oil.

this is just above the red and goes up to 3 quarters will be looking at it again later he has put normal oil back in now so i will see

drop the oil/flush mix out, then refill with oil only before you start to worry about oil pressure.

coombsey

he did that earlier and it stil sits just on top of the red and half way on 2k
