speedo gear thingy!

hi my speedo isnt working on my car so i have checked the cable and its fine and when i took that thing that the speedo cable goes into on the gearbox out it didnt have a gear or anything on it so im wondering if it has broke or should it be like that:confused: .has anyone got any pics of a normal one so i know what they should look like:thumb: (its a f13 box)

There isn't much to see when you pull cable out. The rotating bit inside that connects to the cable is quite small. It maybe easier to pull cable from behind instrument panel and watch the inner cable turn round as you drive along.

The sender inside the gearbox should have a plastic gear on it.

i have pulled the cable out and the cable is fine its the bit that goes in the gear box what the cable goes onto its held on by a 10mm bolt iirc

Scrap gearbox or a Vauxhall dealer would be logical places to start.....
