cut out and won't re-start

i have a 86 1.3sr, i was parking today and the engine cut out, then it just turned over but wouldnt fire. have checked and there is no spark in the plugs, or even going to the distributor from the coil. have swaped for a different coil and that made no difference. anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is, or has had similar trouble and knows what to do.
please help.

is the earth connection to your coil ok?

Man, this little gem. my 1.3 SR used to do this all the time it could be a number of problems or all the problems at once as mine was.

Check, Gearbox to body earth, battery negative to body, Security of starter bolt, tightness of coil to body bolts, positive lead on starter, earth to alternator, positive From alternator,dizzy cap and battery.

It may be just one of the above, or it maybe a little of each, or all of the above.

cheers for the help, the dizzy had totally burnt out, wierd cos i thought dizzy's usually fade out with a missfire before completly giving up,anyway sorted now thanks to a donar sr at my local scrappy.
