Hi folks, sort of new here. Been around a while but never really posted, just used the classifieds. Thought i would make a thread about my nova project, hopefully get upgraded to premium aswell :thumb:

Well folks as some of you may know i had a wee accident in the nova. Was going to just fix the damage then sell it, but decided to go the whole way and build my ultimate dream nova.
Some history of the car so far. bought the car in April from Kano off here, then fitted some cavy gsi wheels for a while
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6070/dsc00398.jpg
Then went on the trusty old speedlines, astra mudflaps and a set of 80mm rear stock rod springs
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6262/knockhill_may_2007_064.jpg
Ran around in it for a while just enjoying the car untill i had a wee accident with a renault and it ended up looking like this
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6070/sp_a0236.jpg
So decided to take her off the road and rebuild her and change the engine to a c20let. Now sitting in my garage, started taking bits off ready for a respray in a few weeks. Puting brand new genuine front wings, bonnet and bumpers on which are coming all the way over from luxemborg :!
Engine plans are where im focusing, wanting a strong reliable engine, power aim is 280bhp minimum, hoping for 300 mark though. Plans are
Phase 3 LET
Courtney fast road cams
vxr injectors
steel headgasket
arp bolts
uprated pistons
OE Throttle body
Maybe a hybrid turbo, but i doubt it.
Interior will be getting set about aswell. Front seats are away getting retrimmed in leather and black cloth as we speak, doorcards are also away. Going to fit a black carpet (well spray paint the standard one :o ) A hald white roll cage will also be getting fitted.
Handling the suspension will be gaz gold coilovers, whiteling arp and superflex all round.
Will try and remember to update this as i go along.

Well i finally got set in about the car today! Got the bodywork bits off that are getting replaced. Brand new wings, bonnet, bumper and sideskirts to go on. Then tackled the job of removing the engine, was nice and easy didnt get any hassle apart from one bolt that stripped on the manifold, but managed to hammer on a 10mm socket and get it off.
Glad to say the project started off without a hitch.
Set about taking the panels off
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6668/sp_a0264.jpg
Then onto the engine, thats me in the ford overalls
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6668/sp_a0266.jpg
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6668/sp_a0267.jpg
Finished off with a nice empty bay ready to get seam welded.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6668/sp_a0268.jpg
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6668/sp_a0269.jpg
Next to do is seam weld the engine bay and fit the chris astley strenghening (sp) kit i bought. Then will be going for paint

101k miler, still runs as sweet as the day it left the factory. Had a rebuild about 3 or 4k ago, still going to strip it down and change gaskets, belts and oil seals.

All brand new genuine OE panels, which are extremly hard (and expensive) to get a hold of for novas now! These ones came all the way from Germany 8O
Unfortunatly one of the rear 1/4 panels was damaged, so that will be getting sent across soon.

Here is a picture of the side i really need to replace, n/s rear quarter. Other side is in perfect condition though.

As soon as i get the rear 1/4 il get it away for paint, then its the hard part. Putting the car back together! 8O Got all the parts i need/want now.

Just a wee update. Picked up a new intercooler, one off a Focus ST from work. Should do the trick as its a decent size, going to paint it black and have it out the middle of the bumper just below the number plate.

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6668/ss100140.jpg

Also picked up my other rear quarter on Sunday, so hopefully get it painted over the next few weeks. Then it will be time to put this jigsaw together!

wilson_sri
20-01-08, 10:23 PM
Finally found somewhere to paint it, had a look at a few other cars the guy had done and they were nothing short of immaculate. So towing it away in the next couple of weeks, hoping to have it back for end of Febuary...Again, hoping to!

Vauxhall only have the gsi door stickers left, so got them today.

Got genuine B-pillar vinyls coming over as we speak.

Now the rear vinyls im in two minds about.
Picked up a genuine set today, its got vauxhall on the right though. A bit looks a bit like the badging on basic models. Which im not to sure about, and i also think the gsi badge may be squint.

Do you think it will be easily noticed?

Car is also away for paint finally, i might make PVS yet! :D

Think i have a solution. Seemingly you can remove the vauxhall badge from the genuine one with a bit heat. So going to give that a try and if not il put the replica one on, and im pretty sure you can still buy genuine boot badges from vauxhall.

Car will be coming back from bodyshop on the 19th. Its going straight into trix to get the engine fitted, dont have time to do it myself sadly if i want to make PVS on the 8th of June!

Went up for another nosey today, pretty pleased with the progress since i was last up. The quarters are now on, all welding in the arches done, all arches are rolled, door locks welded up and the rear wiper hole welded up.

A bit of the rust, car is covered in it though. So off to get scrapped this week.

Also gave the turbo a clean up and bolted it on, and set it up the hoses to see how everything goes.

Theres a hose coming from the turbo that looks like its meant to go to the sump, but cant see anywhere to put it. Is it a water hose?

corsakid

no itll be an oil return most probably from the top you may need to dril and tapp the block and put a union in or get a bit of pipe ally welded in the sump!

How much was that compressor shag??? If your quick, you can get one for £60 at my Aldi. Reeduced to clear.

I was very tempted by one but dont really have the space to store it/and i wouldn't use it much really.

That oil line should go high up in the sump, there must be a return in the sump somewhere if that engines been used for turbo'd engine.

Adam
16-07-08, 08:09 PM
I couldn't be ****d lie down on the grass at billing to have a look at the rear setup lol, but i "think" its still on the standard strut type setup(no turrets)

Arches are probably rolled/trimmed, and then maybe a thin spacer to stop the coilover rubbing the tyre(they clear the tyre without spacers sometimes)

Oh well, looks like its been well done anyway

wilson_sri
16-07-08, 08:52 PM
Adam yeh there the springs i used! Will find out what size they were, as i cant rememeber.

As for the rear set up. I have rolled the arches on all for corners, then used seam sealer to stop them holding water. Its still the standard strut setup at the back. Turrets are going in in the winter and the stub axles on the beam will be modified to suit how low it sits.
Dont have a clue how low it is, im guessing 110mm, maybe a wee bit more? Coilovers still arent wound all the way down...yet lol

Also picked the interior up. MJ Interiors retrimmed nova gsi seats and door cards. In half leather half alcantara. Also new rooflining in alcantara with all the pillars retrimmed in alcantara.

So set about fitting the rooflining today.
Windscreen and both rear quarter windows had to come out, ended up cracking the windscreen though!

Old rooflining ripped out, literally
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/wilson_8344/Interior/DSCF1029.jpg

And this is as far as i got fitting the new alcantara one. Going to need a extra pair of hands to stretch it tightly into place. So got a mate coming to give a hand tomorow. So just pegged it into place all ready to get it in properly tomorow.

Yeh still got the 1.6 turbo. Going to sort out a few performance bits.
What you doing for a cam in yours? keeping it standard? Was thinking about changing mine, but wasnt sure on what lift etc would suit the turbocharged 1600, or if it would even make any differance.

Im talking about standard valvers big chap, not cheaters valvers lol

Going to have it taxed for the 1st of March, hopefully! Just the engine to get back in now.

Not sure, i thought IPF would take care of all that?

The standard cam works fine on a turbo'd 1.6
Or you could get a custom one ground suitable for a turbo engine(requirements are completely different to a NA engine)

Dunno, normaly takes his gear to a guy in leslie who is real cheap. But from what I've seen on here and mig etc it can be a problem and I'm sure there been a cnuted engine or two!

Aye 1st of march doesn't seem that far away now, kind if creeped up, I couldn't resist going for a blast whenever I felt like it and ended up still running it, no point taking it off now! Will need to get it up and give it a good scrubbing underneath now!

I think as long as all the ****e left from sandblasting is cleaned out properly and its all masked up right it should be ok. Iv not heard of anyone having problems with IPF anyway, so should fingers crossed be ok. Luckily for me it wouldnt cost a lot to replace the engine if anything was to go wrong.

Aye not long at all. Bought a disc converted rear beam off Kev aswell so need to get that powdercoated and on, along with a new fuel tank as mines was leaking. You should give it a good wax aswell.

Well at a time when i should really be getting it running and on the road for the better weather coming in, i decided to take more bits off. I dont know where thus obsession with taking bits off comes from, but its really starting to piss me off.
Plans were to take inlet manifold, cam carrier and rocker cover off fo powdercoating. But decided i wanted to send my cylinder head off for big valve spec, so off with that aswell!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/wilson_8344/DSCF1085.jpg

Note the rusty turbo manifold ;)

And in pieces again

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/wilson_8344/DSCF1104.jpg

Got the main man at Chizfab fabrication to cut me a hole in the inner wing for my turbo to AFM hose.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/wilson_8344/DSCF1084.jpg
Also been waiting for this for a few weeks. But with years of abuse taking is toll on my turbo manifold, i wanted to do something about it. So asked about and was advised to get it ceramic coated.

Who did the ceramic coating on the manifold & how much (PM if necessary) I always wanted it done as it helps keep heat inside & away from the engine bay.

You getting a bigger intercooler?
