Hi this is my copied thread from corsasport.....

Finally shifted the 2 litre 8v and invested in this here redtop nova, previously an SR as some may have seen. (some on here may recognise it)

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Nailbed/DSC01561.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Nailbed/DSC01558.jpg

Pretty much looks standard, which is good, but tbh it still looks a bit old womany.

So......... off come the badges....

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Nailbed/DSC01564.jpg

Next on the list is to sort out the tracking as its noticably out, and also properly sort out a crank shaft/driveshaft seal thats leaking quite a bit.

The engine is standard apart from a carbon shelled filter and Friedrich Motorsport Power cap. Pulls really well, managed a 6.1 0-60 with me and a mate in the car (im so immature)

Other plans involve mudlaps with the 3 logo's to stop the back looking so weedy, smoothed wiper, sr or gsi spoiler and stripped out with buckets.

Opinions on the car? What would you do (im looking for ideas http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/smile.gif )

just been out to take some engine pics for you lot to see what you think.

I reckon whoever put the engine in in the first place did a real good job and found a good example of a 2 litre http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/smile.gif
Enjoy.

Power cap
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Nailbed/DSC01569.jpg

4-2-1 with no rust! Im pretty sure its standard as is a bit thin for an aftermarket...
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Nailbed/DSC01565.jpg

I think its awesome. got to sand down and prime/paint some surface rust on the welding where it was seam welded but apart from that is fine!

As said, what do you think?
Plans are, rebuild after 10k, with throttle bodies and dished pistons.
Ive had to bodge the air filter on and also the inlet tube as its worse for wear, im off to the scrappy tomorrow...

..............................................

when i went out in the sun thismorning i noticed the exhaust was megaly dirty - as in months and months of grime.
I stole me dads wonder wheels, which is a light acid and left it on for about 10 minutes, simply hose off and even that nasty tarry stuff you get had gone.
Now looks nice and shiny and cleans up the back more...

nice novas, but why did you scrapped the mk1?, saw it in another thread.

after doing a lot of work to the mk1 the chassis was too far gone and it was a real shame to know that while driving it it was so dead underneath. Great car though.

Sold it on to someone with more facilities who's reshelling it as we speak.

I just thought mk2 = less problems in the long run. less stress too!

Glad you like 'em - even though i havnt done much work on the mk2 at all i feel proud driving it as its a real clean example. Just needs things like new inlet pipe and connector to powercap, a good decoking and i might buy some new injectors.

sweet white nova mate, like colour coding on the bumpers and engine bay. will keep an eye out

mk2novagte
03-09-07, 09:11 PM
yeh been told it was mols. Didnt it have a smoothed boot before?

I have a BMC arriving this week for it as the Simota even though good doesnt fit properly. Also sourcing intake piping as it has splits and im ordering a full 2.25" ashley comp system including manifold in 2 weeks :) Satin Black tailpipe mmmmmmm.

Should go well when i get the bumpers done in anthracite or black.
Engines getting a little smokey - white smoke, but isnt the head gasket at all so i think its just getting a bit dirty. Rebuild in 6 months :) if i save enough

Alright mate. Here's how the car used to look -

http://www.pngclub.com/forum/viewfeaturecar.php?ref=3276

It was pretty similar to that when I bought it. except it had the cav wheels and the grill had been painted white.

But those are the bumpers and boot that were on the car when I first got hold of it.

Here's a pic ive just found from the advert when I first bought it -

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5116/novavalvemh2.jpg

It doesnt look bad in that pic. But the bumper was actually made from fibreglass so It was weak and had cracked. The smoothed boot had by now started to rust along the bottom and the back bumper had also been cut and number plate bodged on.

In my opinion the car looks 10times better now, and by the sounds of your plans will be 10times better again once you've finished.

got time free so am updating.

the cars gone to Vsport for a full engine rebuild as the bottom end was going and it was only pushing out something like 130bhp.

Is getting newman cams, hydraulic lifters, fully balanced crank and flywheel, honed and bored head etc. Will be pushing out close to 170bhp - might even get to 170 itself but i doubt it... Am investing in verniers to dial in the cams too.

Full list of rebuild is here ;

New piston rings
Cams
Timing belt kit
Cam seals
Competition slim stem oil seals
Uprated hydraulic cam lifters
Big end bearings
Con rod bearings
Crank seals
Sump gasket
Head bolts
Head gasket
Inlet gasket
Exhaust gasket
Rocker cover gasket
Double valve springs
Crank/fly balance and polish
Block rebore and hone
Head skim
Chemical clean

Also getting an original SR spoiler for it off here, and soon front and rear struts :)

will post the AF graph etc up here after the cars been run in on the dyno!

white one's real nice, wouldn't do too much to it to be honest, maybe smooth and colour code the bumpers, or gsi ones.

mk2novagte
29-11-07, 09:29 PM
plans are for either gloss black bumpers and grill, or in anthracite with the cav rims to match.

then probably fibreglass bonnet/pins as this one has ingrimed muck. then buckets and a strip :) that'd be it.

update.

car was only ffiring on two cylinders after rebuild so have replaced rotor arm, dizzy cap, coil and leads.

Only hiccup now is hesitating after over-rev when i put me foot back down - any ideas anyone? Im going to change the plugs and reset the ECU to see if it helps......

stuck for idea's as i dont think the AFM is knackered.

a little update

the car has had a misfire when cold for ages now and we've just realised its 2 lifters on cylinder 3.

another mishap was that a piece of masonry ripped the system off my manifold while on a country drive, thatnks to a dry stone wall having collapsed into the road :(

Now i have a brand spanking new Ashley comp manifold and system sat in my room (pics up when i can be ****d) ready to have flanges welded and fitted.

Also on their way are some newman verniers. Will be taking the car to the racing line or somewhere recommended for the work to hopefully get the car running Spic'N'Span like the thread name suggests :)
