First off on behalf of everyone there can I thank Dan for organising the whole day :thumb: And thanks to everyone who went for being so sociable and behaving themselves on track. As usual there were a few casualties but that's to be expected when you're pushing hard.
Was well happy with the way my car performed in the dry, I think I was probably the slowest car out there in the wet in the morning, but in the afternoon nothing passed me :)
I'll add more tomorrow, as I'm knackered and my head hurts now. So cheers guys :thumb:
Hope you had a good day people, wish i could have been there!
Paul
Here here Oli, one thing that needs to be remembered is that Dan organised this off his own back before he and myself had even started talking about PNG. Thanks a lot mate, it was a quality day.
As for the day itself, great to meet a few more new faces, as well as catch up with the old guard for another day of track abuse. Ill try to render a vid up by tonight and i should have all sessions up by tomorrow.
A big thanks to Dan for organising the event which like last year started off wet (very) and progressed to dry in the afternoon. I had bought some new wets(Eagle F1) and a set of rally slicks(Hankook Ventus). So it was good try try out both sets. The Eagle F1's are simply awesome in the wet and the slicks were also as impressive in the dry. I've never had so much grip!!
All my suspenson fiddlings seemed to have worked so I'm a happy bunny. I took a few different people out for passenger laps which was fun:D Anyway here are my piccys:thumb:

Looks like you all had a good day out - Maybe next year I might be able to join you all
Dave
Just got in myself. Was gutted I couldn't drive, but I enjoyed myself anyway. Thank you for the birthday cake, I was really touched (and not just by Dan).
I will upload my pics later, I took a lot, so will upload the best of the bunch.
Thanks to Dan for organising it, and thanks to Mark and Charlie for the lift down :)
Was a great day nice to meet all of you Dan thanks again mate for letting me come along in the pug :D
I'll have my pics up shortly I think I've got a pic of the black nova almost a foot in the air on two wheels lol
Well believe it or not I had a great day too. There were some fantastic cars there, even a Hillman Imp which looked like great fun, hats off to who ever it was that took that thing down.
Ernie's little incident with The Stick is still maiking me chuckle, just wish I'd been watching at the time.
I just wish I'd managed to put a few laps down when it was dry to see how the car really went on track. Although, saying that, going broad side through the Devils Elbow in the wet is an experiance I won't forget for a while.

yes jim was bummed and touched by several members today. I think his cast was the main attraction tbh. Still lost to how they managed to shape it in the mould of marks bell end????
Cheers to lee for getting me along to the travel lodge. was a good idea in the end mate. good to meet you and ya missus also!! Also cheers jim for passing me the room over !
On a more serious note*cough* nice one to dan for organising the event . Also well done to everyone who turned up. Was a decent day in the end altho the morning i think a jet ski was more useable.
Good meeting some new faces as well as the regulars.
Big up to CP . Stacked it but wasnt put of and repaired it for some more abuse. Quality mate! Altho i think it was mark flashing is legs that took your eye of the ball on that one. !!!! lol
Lots of other real nice cars there too ! Also some different non vaux stuff which made a nice change.
overall good day and good meeting everyone. hope everyone returned home safely!!!!
(ps cheers to the bloke who borrowed me the ramps) (stick) :thumb:

Some impressive novas there.
Well done people
looks a good day lads!, and blimey, CP's car back out again! and Chris loving the stickered up look!:)
I think Ernie and the bonnet incedent was definately the highlight of the day, im not sure what made me look out to the back end of the track, but there was christian accelerating out of the complex, and a moment later his bonnet is vertical instead of horizontal just on the approach to the quickest corner on the circuit lol lol I wish I were a fly on teh windscreen for that one.

Cheers for the invite Dan. Got to say i was well impressed with all the cars today and was suprised to see how well they went, not impressed with how NOT well mine was through the twisty (serious lack of traction and grip), but aleast it held together and took all the abuse i gave it.
I'll defo be attending next year if i'm invited.
Cheers again

Did everyones car survive? Apart from Cp's slightmishap.
Are there any plans to have more png trackdays? Or was this a one off type affair?

My pleasure mate, it was good to see one of you guys there, and talk about fast once it got going  i'm sure with some simple tweeks that car would be a serious weapon :thumb: without these days you would never realise how much simple things can make a difference. I think having a few random cars like we did made the day all that bit better, everyone agreed it was nice to see and should definitley be done again.
Cheers for all the kind comments from everyone, it helps make it all worth while, we had a cracking turn out, with a great crowd of people who all chatted and mixed very well. Ok the weather wasnt the greatest to start with for some of you (i did say i liked the wet stuff lol ) but with the way the day turned around many agreed having the array of different track conditions definitley added to the fun when all was said and done.
Having done this day and getting through it to the finished result i have no problems with looking into doing another one next year :thumb:
Some top pics there.
Who's is the black nova? lol
Just got home !
As said, big thanks to Dan for organising it, and Whomever else helped (Lee ?) . Was great to meet you all..
The day was completely awesome, I absolutly Love Oli's little 1600 16v ! Such a quick car in the afternoon. Also, Dar took me out for some laps in his - I'm still struggling to believe how quick that thing is ! It seems to go quicker through the corners than down the straights :S
I think i was the only Full Interior car there today, and did a 500 Miles round trip for the event ! Very impressed that nothing went wrong, and it kept working all day !
Cheers for the invite Dan. Got to say i was well impressed with all the cars today and was suprised to see how well they went, not impressed with how NOT well mine was through the twisty (serious lack of traction and grip), but aleast it held together and took all the abuse i gave it.

Good to meet you sir. I noticed a camera on board, be sure to post up any footage :thumb:

http://www.205gti.me.uk/205/llandow/llandow31.jpg
Was that pre sideways moment ? I'm still laughing about how well that fed into the corner lol
Think so, came out on the footage spot on as well.
Once again well done and thank you Dan.
As for my bonnet moment that was all topped of in a true cable tie hammer and drill moment that held out for the rest of the day.(Cheers to Geth and his Dad for giving me a hand).
Shame i could'nt bodge the clutch cable in the same way when it snapped.
The most anoyoing thing was that i had just put my dry tyres on and it was flying just before the cable broke.
DId you say you didnt get any footage of the bonnet incedent? If not its gutting as that would probably become a legenday video!
Ive checked my camera but it shut of at 8 mins for some reason wile i was waiting to go out on track so im well gutted. has any body got any pics of when it went up as it scared the **** out of me.
back to the subject of me and my bonnet moment. Did'nt a little blue and white tb'ed nova do the same ish.
Hi all, little black nova GTE is me!:) Dan big thanks for organising such a good day out and to all who turned up.:thumb:
Had alot of fun with a few hairy moments at times but the day was nearly perfect for me and my car until on my journey home (90 miles from home) my Timing Belt snapped just as I turned into "Membury services" off the M4 j14-15. Gutted Ive owned that nova for 7 years and its never broken down (until today). Got Recovery man to take my car to my mechanics house - who then took the rocker cover off to inspect the damage. most of the followers were in pieces - tomorow I will find out if valves are bent:(
cheers
George
George, thats bad to hear pal, although hopefully less damage will have been caused than if it went on track!
Your car caused a bit of a buzz in the paddock, it was going very well indeed, and was cocking the back wheel all over the place lol.
Ive got some good footage of you too which i should get sorted for tomorrow evening.
we had some good battles out there and thank you for pulling over and letting me through as it was a bit to wet to get to close on track.
Some very nice driving and well done for getting it back on to 4 wheels lol.
Bad news that :(
Survives the track, then dies on the motorway.
If rockers are broke, you will likely have valve damage.
Gutted to here that G-Mans!! Looked like you were having fun and your car was going well.
sorry to hear that also, i was very suprised at how quick your car was for a Fairly Standard GTE lump !
Hope the damage isn't too bad, and you get it sorted soon !

looke dlike a good day was had by all of ya's
gutted about the car george, was going very well.
So where are the rest of the pics/footage  i will admit i was just to lazy and didnt turn the camcorder on once even though it was set in the car ready, but it would be good to get the rest up :thumb: as i am away after tonight until the weekend with no net :(
My vids are rubbish. Only one clear one and then the screen is half misted up since I couldn't be bothered to wait for the other half to demist before I went out. I will host it though.
cool and i hope somebody has some fotage of mine for a change as i would like to see it on track.

Great day to watch. The varying conditions really did mix things up a bit....
G-MANS. I cant beleive that happened after what we spoke about (never breaking down)......
Hopefully I'll get a lid & finally sort my car through the winter & be a bit more involved next time.
Car of the day for me was undoubtedly Oli's Blue SMALLBLOCK Nova.
The only pic i have as my batterys went flat on my camera.

According to this forum I can't post any pictures until I've made 15 posts or more. :tard: So no pictures for a bit.
We had a great day out, got there late to find nearly everyone huddled under the Gazebo to keep out the pouring rain. It was good to give the Cavalier it's first track action since it was built and it behaved almost perfectly, the only problem being the wishbone weight on the offside coming loose. I did three sessions in the afternoon, which was fun. :thumb: Went and picked up an alternator belt for Lee at lunchtime from Bridgend. You'll never guess what snapped on my car on the way home lol

About ten miles from the track, the gauges started to drop and I knew something wasn't right. The alternator was no longer charging. We came off the M4 near Llantrisant and the car promptly died at a set of traffic lights. A quick look under the bonnet revealed that the alternator belt was gone. Cruel irony or what? Phoned the AA and a nice chap called Martin came out, stuck a booster pack on it to get it to a garage about a mile away and then advised me we'd have to find a Halfords as he didn't carry V-belts on the van. Luckily there was a Halfords just down the road and I bought three belts(?5.80 at trade). Unfortunately some numpty fitted the oil cooler too close to the bottom pulley to get a new belt on, so the pulley had to come off. At least I'd put new bolts on last year, so it came off OK. The smallest of the three belts *just* fitted on - they didn't have a GTE 16v belt in stock. Anyway, with that sorted we were on our way.

Car's that impressed me most on the day were Dan and his 1.6 8v - defying the laws of physics in the wet all morning, Pat's Imp was impressive as he was thrashing the nuts off it and for the first time ever nothing broke! CP's sounded awesome as ever. Dar's was't impressive as he and the car just maintained the high level of performance that we've all come to expect :thumb:
And to set the records straight, Llandow was due to be the showdown between Big and Small blocks, with BT and his lardy 2.0 and me with my lithe 1.6. However BT wussed out and dived into the pits when he saw me gaining on him. So the winner by submission is Smallblocks! lol

Some nice piccys there dougie!!! Sunset is rather cool.
On another note i was a tad peed i couldnt get out once the track had started to dry. Was just getting ready to switch to some better tyres when something decided to let go once again. On inspection both inner and out cvs have almost shatterd on the short shaft side. So i think its time for a upgrade
hopefully ive weened the problems out now and might manage more than a few laps at some future event lol!!!!!

LMFAO you cheeky bint! Think i jinxed myself last year saying that, as ive ended up this year with a worse engine and the same bloody tyres ive had since last year! When i pulled off, i saw you in the rear view and the first thing i thought was 'bugger, hes going to love this' lol

How dare you, it's a 1.6 8v smallblock !? :S
Bollox, I thought I heard u say it was a 2.0 8v, whooops :(
Nope, smallblock all the way ! it even managed a 500mile round trip effortlessly. 2-0 high five
Lame bit of in car footage. I always seem to get problems with video at Llandow and this year I forgot my extra battery and charging unit, gutted! :( (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=4487104692468141969&hl=en-GB)
Some great piccys. Keep them coming:thumb:
I got sent a good one last night. Supprised its not been posted. So I thought I would do the honours.

Dar, I think you need a heater for that windscreen. I'm suprised you could see where you were going.
Its a heated screen but It was very wet and I couldn't be bothered to wait or wipe it. I could see fine :D Chris couldn't thoughlol
Video still looks good, stil going quick - even in the wet :)

Well guys, im glad you all had an amazing day..looks like it was a very good turn out.. (wet or not)

Scott
Wehay, good lad scott !
I must admit, i have been getting into my minty mint mk2 XR2. But this trackday just made me realise what a peice of turd it is compared to my nova. I love the little car ! It just doesn't stop going.
I think i'm going to treat it to a much needed Respray and some panels.
scott.parker
21-08-07, 07:45 PM
Mk2 festies are good though, i loved my first car..well for the small time a had it before it met the oak tree..woops..
*DONT ANYONE EVER BUY A MK3 XR2i* keeps the fixed or ramped daily phrase to its word.. Fast when it worked..
Sorry of off topic crap,lol.
Scott
Although, The chap in the XR2 Turbo was on fire (literally at times). Another very nice car, and it didn't half fly down the straights.
I had 60 minutes of footage to sort through lol
Anyway, ive uploaded the best 3, as the others involved missed gears, steamed up windows and uber slow speeds!
Session 2. First run on the dry tyres so slowly built up the pace, but managed a few banzaioversteer moments into the bus stop lol ERNIE, some of your car mate lol
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-3767187842850226058
Session 3 Nick as passenger, probably the best session of the day, big oversteer moment on second lap, lots of other cars on track including CP or MC (dont know who was driving lol), Dan, Ginge in his XRT blowing flames out, the lil black GTe with wheel cocking tendencies, and a little trip on the grass.
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-3776927138150359247
Session 4. Basically a late in the day asre about with Dar. This shows the gulf between our cars at the moment, my car seems to be going backwards while his just keeps getting better recently. Not to worry, hes short and is probably gay lol I show him my appreciation half way through where he slows down to taunt me, I was suffering from uber tyre issues though, the poor things have done well though, about 10 track days now i think.

some very good pics and vids there boys ,
top pic of the sunset lynz :thumb:
im really gutted that im not driving my nova anymore , but it suppose it stays mint for longer that way lol
Mr BT - Second Vid - 1min 55ish lol scary view, armco coming towards front end mucho fasto lol
Third vid - my god, Dar's Nova doesnt hang around!! (50secs in) 3mins in, FPMSL!! ;)
That 3rd video, Dar, fcuk me matey you were doing some pace! Keeping some seroius speed up there!!

what i have learnt from this day is i need a windscreen like dar and charles and regardless of how lazy i am i must turn on my camcorder, lee's footage is awesome. The wet sessions i was out in were pretty much balls out foot down stuff as those that were there could see, hard to explain but i wasnt far off the dry pace of normal road tyre guys and it gave dar the chance to explore the limits of the f1's after he let me by and followed my pace as it was his first proper blast with that brand of tyre.
The video with me in was my worst when i was struggling for heat when me and charles went out on the inters, mucho rear end out cornering (although not to clear on the vid). Lee was on one of his flying sessions and i think it was my slowest but most fun (had my first ever spin early on in it)
My final session on the inters the car hooked up amazingly and when it was time for me to come in i stayed out another 4-5 laps on the track on my own as it was so good, those timing had me lapping in the same ballpark as dar was which again i should of filmed, wasnt fussed at the time but the wise words from lee on the day should of been followed as watching that i am gutted i didnt bother. One to be put down to experience and will be done in the future regardless.
Worst of all, i have now taken this 8v to its absolute limit in performance now, to the point i am using it for all it offers and am pushing it for more than it has. After 10 years of messing with it I have got to the point where i have more to offer than the car can give. It has been said by others and for what it achieves on track it shouldnt be possible doing the laps times it does against others but it does it. I have alot to contemplate and look into, its going to be a long winter when it parks up and i decide whether to kill it all together and keep abusing it or step up the ladder performance wise and bring the car back to a level that it is one step ahead of me again.
(cue eastenders style ending lol)

I learnt a hell of a lot from this day too.
I wasn't a very confident wet weather driver, I now feel that my car is so much better in the wet than I gave it credit for and my confidence has rocketed. I was pushing it to its limits in the wet and it was very controllable and so much more stable than I thought. One thing that certainly helps I think is my abs, and knowing I've got that if I over do it, and I only ever needed it once. And I'm very impressed with my tyres(Kumho KH 11) in the wet.
Roll on the winter break when some more changes can take place.
I've got video from 4 sessions but have got to find a monkey to convert it DVD as the recorder is prehistoric. Will get them posted asap.

Lee i think i heard Nicks sphincter contractng when you hit the buss stop sideways in the second vid! lol
I know i would have, quite enjoyable vids guys, as said top day by the look of things, must get back out there...soon!
Scott
The sideways bit was pretty mental - Credit to lee for getting it back round and into the next corner lol
Just realised how odd it is seeing my own car being driven round track by someone else :S

I though i saw your car when you were in Lee's lol not just me imagining things..

Lee, Muchos Respectos for keeping keeping the car on track during that sideways moment. If it was intentional you could almost have called it a scandinavian flick.
Don't suppose you'd have any decent footage of when you were behind me would you as at the moment the only souvinier I have from the day is a knackered gearbox.
Top vids there Lee, nice bit of control on the sidewards "moment" Lol

Ive learnt i need bigger hubs and driveshafts ! lol! lol
Also learnt one rear shocker nice and loose ' need a better oil breathing system / front demister might be needed also / but apart from that its all good lol!
good pictures a page back by the way. :)

Seeing the pics has brought it all back to me again from Monday.
It really was a great days viewing. Having a couple other type of cars on the track added to the fun aswell. Seeing how much better the Nova's cope with corners than that XR2...
Great vids Mr BT!!
My fave is number three:thumb: lol
It used to be my car with the wild back end, but it seams that you now have the wild rear end. BT and his wild rear end, sounds kind of familar:wtf:
Give me a break, it's time consuming going through 160+ pics, editing them and then uploading them all with your weaker hand, lol :p
just use picasa lol. it auro resizes and uploads them in one hit.. saves your vvanking injury from getting worse
Picassa is for amateurs that don't know how to use photoshop ;)
I know how to use it enough, but you are then stuck with one image size for uploads. atleast picasa lets you choose from 3-4 options for linking :D
As does Flickr. There is more to photography than just changing the size of an image. Composition is important too and I feel more comfortable editing the pics with photoshop than some free software download.
whats compost got to do with photos? lol
At last the pics are online. Go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/72286523@N00/sets/72157601602794871/ for Higher-res images.

Sorry for the delay. I have more, but these are the best of the bunch :)
Bloody great pics Jim!!
One pic i dont believe! last year, The TV photographer managed to single click Dan on two wheels. The chances of that happening are pretty slim. Then you go and do it a year later!!
Hes jammier than your average bear (or ape, or whatever lol)

Awesome pics there Jim, quality.
Cheers guys. Having such good feedback makes me want to buy a decent digital slr camera.

brilliant pics mate..

Great pics Longun!
Bit late getting on ( fooking PC has conked ) and i know its been said already but cheers to dan who fronted up a cracking day for us all:thumb:
Ho-hum smashed my nova but nothing really serious for me or it so it was another "phew got away with it " episode. I should have pulled in and sorted my brake fade but i was having perhaps a little too much fun out in the rain on some elderly Toyo Proxes and my skills and luck ran out- or more accurately my brakes ran out into the chicane at the far side of the track. It was case of pump brakes at braking point - nothing. Pump again- nothing. Ulp:eek: Err **** now I'm in trouble. I finally got some brakes in the chicane itself locked up and went straight thru the cones and pirouetted gracefully sideways and backwards towards the tyres which I eventually hit luckily at only about 10 mph.
Got back to the pits- re-connected some wires, swapped my DOT4 brake oil for Chris's DOT5 oil (cheers mate:thumb: ) pulled out the wing, cleaned the mud out of the brakes and away we went again. Eventually got onto the slicks and managed to get some good clean fast laps in towards the end of the day which was a result all things considered.:D For the last 3 days everytime I've been about to brake, irrespective of what I've been driving (including tractors) I've been involuntarily pumping the brakes at least once without realising it lolollol lol
I was very impressed by the standard of Novas and for the most part (ahem:tard: myself excluded:roll:) the standard of track driving. Without exception it was a highly commendable collection that would give any tin top a run for its money on any track. Years ago when i first took my car out on track, seriously sorted fast Novas were few and far between and i almost never came up against anything of my type of car that could get close to me. Its definitely changed now and for the better! Well done to everyone - your cars do you credit it was good fun driving out there with you all:thumb:
Unfortunately its getting more and more expensive but I would recommend saving up next year and doing one of the other main circuits. From what I saw everyone would be way up on pace and well at home at any of them. I reckon its time we went and had a play with some porsches and westies etc. Perhaps we could do a different circuit every year?
Oh if anyone wants a hi res version then drop me a PM :D

Oulton park is a fantastic circuit, plenty of Expensive cars to upset !
But i'm biased, it's about 50miles from me, not 260 !
Oh if anyone wants a hi res version then drop me a PM :D
Same here. Have some much higher-res ones at home.

I like brands, great track and plenty of 'race cars' testing at most trackdays. Lee H and Olly both enjoyed brands the last time they went. I'm up for doing a few good track days!
Looks like a good day had by all! I'm jealous that i don't have a track car! perhaps the old sport rep could be turned into something? hmmm.......
You don't have to have a "track" car to do a track day.
You don't have to have a "track" car to do a track day.
Good point, although as I found out, decent suspension would help! lol

As jim says, you don't need a track car !
Mines pretty tame.. i guess the only "track"ish thing about it is the engine and my brake pads lol
All you need is some kind of firmer suspension, and something like a set of M1155 Mintex pads. This way, you'l get some reasonable handleing and you'l cut down on brake fade !
Or alternativly, just go do one. If you like it, then improve some parts for the next one...

This vid is OK, it shows G-Mans in his std power GTE, followed by Oli in his smallblock ripping past Ernie in the stick.

hmm ok jim i meant track prepped/track safe. I have no cage, no harnesses, crap brakes etc. A track day in my xe'd green nova, without further work would kill itlol

Nice vid Craig.
The only reason he came past so fast was dew to there are not many places to over take at llandow in the wet or the dry safe so i moved over lifted of the gass and let him past as you should do if somebody is on a charge.Once i had let him through i went back on the gass behind him.
Still thanks for getting stick on vid.
It's called good track manners:thumb:
Which were very good at the track day as expected. Well all except that little Fiesta who didn't want to pull over but it was fun pushing him through the bus stop and having a drag race down the back straight:D His driving was of a high standard though.
When you pull over and let off to let someone past it always looks like your going really slow, which you are because you backed off;) lol
Cheers for exsplaining what i was upto a bit more clearly bud.

Track etiquette. :D
To be fair Chris, now you put it like that I can hear you were 'off gas' & I was only joshing anyway. lol
All the cars impressed me on Monday including G-Mans in his Black GTE, how that thing didnt tip over I'll never know!
I've got a few more snippets I can upload. Bound to be more of yours & one of them is a mint sound clip of CP at full chat!

Excellent photo's Jim and Longun.
Yes track manners were of a high standard, much better than the likes of Combe action days.

Its usually the minority that are responsible for bad driving though, at Combe its often BM's & Cossies with the ego problems isnt it?
just got back from a few days away and caught up, i can only echo the thanks to the guys taking the pictures, again some awesome pics :thumb: I presume the track must of been wet still with my 2 wheel shot as i was still using my f1's and there is spray present lol no wonder i had to rotate them in the pits after carrying that speed through the bends on road tyres :D

Quality bit of oversteer here by CP's car. I think someone else was piloting it however....

Cool vid clip, nice bit of driving get it back straight.
That was Mark aka MC. After I had had a go at wrecking the car in the morning we decided that our slicks couldn't have less grip than the "wets" we were on so we changed after lunch even tho the track was still greasy with no proper dry line hence the slide you captured on videolol Good action shot:thumb:
Our slicks didn't really start to work anything like properly until towards the end of the day when Mark put in a 47.7 just before the close which was our best time of the day. I did a 48.6 a bit b4 that
lol, way cool, although a very unusual place for some non-handbrake induced oversteer! Seeing that i was chasing Dan, thats the session i got hugely sideways on the entrance to the bus stop as well, but that shows how much grip your car had coming in to carry enough speed to lose the **** at that point!
