Hi, i have a nova sri and have just had the head gasket replaced on it due to all the signs, header tank boiling up, sludge on oil cap, loss of power, misfiring etc, the head gasket was replaced and i saw where the old one had split around the cylinder No4, it was replaced around 40 miles ago, and i've been taking it easy to run it in, but when the car is stood there is still steam from the exhaust and when the temperature gets upto half way, the header tank boils over, and steam is released from the cap, could this be the thermostat or a blocked radiator or something? any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Jono.

yea, could be, water boils over really easily, mine used to just sat at traffic lights! someone said to me that anti-freeze and coolant has a higher boiling point than water, so is less likely to boil over!

Cheers mate, could be partly to do with this, but there is steam coming from the exhaust aswell when idling, any more ideas people?
Cheers Jono.
you could have a split head.
did you get it skimmed?
The rad could be sludged up, the stat should be swapped as a precaution with a head gasket swap just because it is a sod to do separately.
Might be worth having the compression checked.

Yes, i had the head skimmed/refaced when the gasket was replaced, all the pipes are getting hot and there does'nt seem to be any sign of a blockage, the 4 branch manifold i have fitted on there seems to be tight against the block, anyone think this could be forcing the head up slightly since it's been skimmed?
Cheers Jono.
