I changed the Carb on mine to one of an old OHV 1.2 Astra but they are rarer than rocking horse poo.
It made a slight +ve improvement but not really that much to write home about!

In a word, no.
Theres no mods.
Theres no aftermarket exhaust systems/manifold.
No aftermarket cam's etc.

I'd just leave it alone tbh, until you get a "proper" engine.

4 speeds are alright. The CR 5 spd in a GSi isnt much quicker (LOL).

I was going to suggest tracking down a 1200 OHV from a chevette or mk2 Astra. Drop that in on the quiet.

Best bet is to tweak & tune the chassis & brakes until the car really is desperately underpowered & then put a quick motor in it.

apart from obviously having another gear whats the differences betwen the 4 and 5 speed boxes, like advantages n disadvantages would a 4 speed go faster in 1st, 2nd, 3rd n 4th because it has no 5th what would you say is better for traffic light grandprix?

Ive a feeling the 1.0 would be slower with a 5 speed.

If you really need it to go faster, the best way is to chuck a bit of nitrous in it, but your insurers will probably spit their dummy out on that one lol

Bottom line is, i would save your pennies and build up your no claims. Keep the money aside and start to build an engine ready to drop in when insurance allows, or concentrate on getting the shell up to scratch.

Also give it a full service, that always helps, but it really is a **** engine performace wise, and you cant polish a turd at the end of the day lol

yer think il just wait for a 14oosr lump and do a convertion when they will insure it, may get sum nos for just before i take the 1.0 out and jst see what i can get outa it lol how big the bang will be lol

can you even turbo a 1.0 lol or i no someone trying to sell me some t40s is there anyway these could be fitted?

Adam
17-08-07, 05:20 PM
No because theres no t40 inlet available for a 1L.

Yes you could turbo it.

Would be a lot of DIY fabrication work tho.
I bet it would work well tho, OHV, HardNut engine lol

It would probably end up as quick as a 1400 lol

i take it these 1.0 are pretty solid engines then im well up for turboing it just for the hell of it lol what sorta turbo would i need is there a car i could get most of the parts off?

Adam

Make up an inlet then, seems a **** load of work just to "blitz" a 1.2 carb at the traffic lights. lol

PMSL this thread has gone from tongue in cheek to just plain daft.

Im sure, if your insurance company was planning on sticking a finger in your bum for doing an engine swap, they would be quite happy to stick a big hunker chunk of love up your ass for bodging a turbo in it lol

Adam

The obvious donor for a 1.0 ohv turbo conversion is the metro turbo. the engines are similar in layout.
But it would be tons of work to get it right.
Just get it handling & stopping well. These mods alone will make it much faster & be a lot cheaper
The opel 1200 ohv was tuned back in the seventies, there may be some info on the net, basically all the mods that work for a bmc a-series will work on any engine. ie.- raise the compression, improve the air flow etc. you could check out the Dave Vizard a series tuning book
