View Full Version : F10 gearbox (nova sport) query, help needed.
Right, firstly did the sport have a slighly different gearbox? ie different final drive/ diff? If so can anyone tell me what it was?
next bit is for all you gearbox boffins!
And secondly, whilst digging through my sport bits today, i have what appears to be a BRAND NEW f10 gearbox. It has the following stamped on it;
A338 52 W 418.
Now i'm guessing the w means it's wide ratio yeah? and the 418 is the 4:18 diff ratio?, but what are the other numbers for? (a338 52)
If it's no good for the cause then it'll get flogged. Any help greatly appreciated:thumb:
I'm pretty sure my Sport has a W418. I was told that an F13 gear set with this diff is a pretty good combination?
I don't think there's anything special about this box, but I could be wrong.
Dec
Hi dec, yeah as the gearbox is new i'm presuming it's not the original box for the car? i'd just heard various reports that the sport gearbox was slightly diferent from the sr box, to make use if the extra power from being carbed? I could be wrong though lol, cheers, john.

Wasn't the sport quick off the mark due to a close ratio box and a high numbered final drive?

As sports were dealer converted 1.3 base models i would assume the gearbox is identical to a base 1.3, which im pretty sure is the same as an SR (5speed F10)
Must admit I didnt think there were any differences...
Is that F10 the one that was in the back of my old Sport?

W = Wide Ratio
CR = close ratio
a wide ratio f10, i'm confused? if this is the case i presume it's not a nova box then?
iv had an f10 for a year and i just changed to an f13cr. GET F13CR! its amazing forth is so bloody quick! between 60 and 100 youll be gone through 3rd and 4rth!

G88KAG it sounds like it is'nt possibly astra /cav
All 4 speed F10s were Wide ratio and stamped as such. Many 5 speed novas were wide ratio and some were fitted with 4.18 final drives too. I pulled one out of a 1.2 Nova "Top Hat" fairly recently. hth
