Is the only difference between these two engines the bore size?
Is rods, crank and heads all interchangeable?
Can a C14se be bored to 1650 safely?

A 1.4 should be able to be bored out to 1650, as all the smallblocks are from the same/similar castings. You'd have to read up on the specs for the bore and stroke to know if the rods and crank are interchangeable. The heads are technically interchangable, but a 1600 head on a 1400 bottom end will cause a serious compression drop, and a 1400 head on a 1600 bottom end will cause too much compression.

Thanks for that. I'd mesure up cc'd in the head etc before I'd do anything to calculate compression ratio.
Any suggestions where I could find out if rods and crank are interchangable besides a haynes manual.
thinking of cheating a class are we? lol
16se has a longer stroke than a 1400.

No way. Not by style. Just got offered a free c14se and wanted to see if I could make a 1650 out of it.

16se has a longer stroke than a 1400.
How could the shells be the same size then for 1.3 1.4 and 1.6
erm because they use the same big end sizes... but the stroke can be different

So the cranks are the same but the rods are different in which case the pistons on the 1400 must have a thicker crown?
Is my assumption right?
I think the cranks different, rods are the same.
