they have a limited range of lets and chokes. ive seen thoes on Ebay too, they will be more trouble than they are worth, your better off trying to get some webbers (for ease of parts availability).

Does anyone know anything about Solex carbs?

Dellorto carbs are slightly better than webbers for tuning as they are more progressive, but as Cambridge says, they aren't as easy to get parts for. They'll fit on the same manifold as webbers.

Weren't Solex carbs fitted to old french cars like early 205's etc?

Dellorto's are much better than Webers. There is a UK distributor you can get parts from and any good rolling road can jet them for you - not expensive if you go to the right places.

My 1.4 runs twin 40 DHLA's - 116bhp at the wheels.

Only note of caution is - buying 2nd hand carbs should be treated with care some are very scrappy - better off going to an engine tuner or rolling road than buying private.
