checking a starter works??

is there any way of testing a starter motor without fitting it into an engine to see if it works?

i have got loads lying around and need to test them and see what ones i need to keep and one that i can fit in my nova project..

When I got my new one from my parts shop they connect it up to a battery to test it, (as the previous one I bought was a duff)

Gotta hold it firmly as it spins up quite viciously!

yeah just connect it to a good battery. let it run for a bit and test it a few times to make sure

Make sure you use thick enough cables(jump leads)
As a thinnish wire will just melt when the motor tries pull a massive amount of current through it.
