wonder if anyone can shed some light on this:- my nove gte 1990 model with the dry coil (square in shape) and the big ecu
wont start off the key first thing in the morning! ie cold! if you tow it, it starts straight away then it will start ok all day until you leave it overnight again!ive fitted a new coil but it does exactly the same! ive tried a normal round coil with the ignition amplifier and that made no difference! when you rev the engine to between 5000 and 6000 whilst drivivg it will slighty splutter at about 5100 revs and again just under 6000! this is now becoming a pain in the ass!
so any ideas or help is most welcome
thanx

Maybe the dizzy - perhaps the hall sensor is on its way out? My old GSi done some weird things when the wiring went funny on the hall sensor.

have your battery + alternator checked, also check the earth straps. the wobbly running might need some diagnostic work

u tried given the engine a good clean inside the inlet housing, and clearing the pipe that runs from the cam cover to the inlet, also make sure all thre tiny thin pipes that run around the engine are not leaking air.

BTW i have a complete gsi head with the inlet/airbox/coil/cam etc if you are still having problems!!!
might end up being cheaper swopping it over

The hall sensor in in the dizzy nxt to the rotor arm. i had very similar probs on my gte, same set up as your dry coil big ecu etc. Went to a scrappy paid 25quid for a used dizzy and the car runs fine again now. Also try removing your plugs and spray them wd40 and again in the leads on the plugs and dizzy cap. This'l drive out any moisture in them.

If loving my pint is wrong, i dont wanna be right!

got the car sorted now! after a new coil, ignition amplifier and a distributor,
none of the above made the slighest difference! it was all down to a relay in the engine bay! didnt even have to change it!
just sprayed some WD40 on the conections and now the cars fine! starts perfect and revs like a goodun! but thanx for everyones help and suggestions! cheers lads!!!!!!!!
