does anyone know what the differnce (performance wise) between these two engines are?? I have both the engines but aint sure which one to use and they're both in mint condition. Also whats easiest to do- a full resray or fitting an engine??

engines - read somewhere the 1.4 is a more refined engine than 1.3 - smoother. unsure about the performance mind (sorry).
Ref respray - depends on how much prep needs doing, rust, dents etc. depends on colour (flip, metalic, flat colour). If doing it yerself or getting someone to do it for ya. I'm doing my car meself but I have experience in respraying.

Whack the 1.4 in i think it's only got 2/3 more brake, 72 compared wi the 1.3's 69/70. Somethin like that and it would most likely be newer engine anyway. Later spec 1.4's have squared off cambelt covers instead of rounded.
Do a full repray then fit the engine!

Will this take long officer?
Cos your wife is expecting me...

1.4 is better, but you can't fit a 1.4 on to a 1.3 gearbox the housing is different. the odd thing is that you can fit a 1.3 to a 1.4 gearbox. fitting an engine is way easier than a respray I fitted a gte eng/box into a 1.2 merit on my own a sunday afternoon and drove to work the next morning.
Mind you, I hate painting. I used to work at a firm who resprayed trains it took us 4 days to rub them down. let alone paint them.

A 1400 SR block will fit on a 1300 gearbox, as thats what im running at the moment.

My apologies, there's another mechanic who's off my christmas list.
for a while I ran a 1300(made into a 1400 with a bit of help from Karlschmidt) on a 1.6 gte box and the housings didn't quite line up, but the bolts did.

u cant fit a 1.4 sri onto a 1.3 gearbox!!!!

these 2 engines r very close but the 1.4 is moe tunable and u dont haveto rev it quite as much (wheres the fun in that)

The 1.3 sounds better and is more fun to drive but it is very revy, and not very tuneable. As for the 1.4 it is a little bit tame as standard, but is well easy to tune up for little money and big performance.(by the way i am selling my 1.4 engine+box)
