Cheers Lee - its coming together slowly :)

Looking forward to giving it some now, revs up very smoothly considering its on a base map too

Providing nuts & bolts are here, will be fitting seats & harnesses tonight, and then I can go for a drive

Scott

I spotted that too Scott!!

Olly, what can I say, It looks awesome mate, you've done a top job, got some good kit on there and you've made one hell of a car. If mines half as good as this when its done I will be happy!!

Good work mate, you'll have to take me for a blast in it would love to experience it, and it might give me the motovation to get cracking on mine!!

Wowzers - thanks all for the nice comments :)

Cheers Scott - glad you like it, and yup, in the process of, but I'll do it when I can be assed to take the seats back out - good beedy eye tho lol

Adam - I'm thinking the same, although it will be 'finished' for now, until I reach its limits, and it starts slowing me down, only then will I improve, no point modding for the sake of modding :)

Ben - thanks, yep - booked mapping session today at Track 'n' Road with the 2 famous Steves, Greenald & Pitcher. Next Friday 18th, as fitting cams and new timing kit tomorrow, then it'll be ready mapped for the trackdays I have booked - got one booked every month up until July lol

Ian - nice words pal, cheers - you're welcome for a passenger ride whenever you want chap, next open pit at Donny I'm booked on is Mid July iirc, unless you wanna travel to a trackday sooner lol

Adam
11-01-08, 04:07 PM
Is Track N Road not a fair drive from you?:eek:

I guess its worth it tho, going by there reputation.

trackdaynova
11-01-08, 04:11 PM
Yup - tis a fair way, a trek infact, and there are lots of others closer, but I've spent way too much time, effort and money on this car, buying all the rights bits - to go and skimp right at the last hurdle would be criminal

It might cost another ?50 or whatever more, and another bit of petrol - but it's worth it just going by their reputation, as you say :)

Adam
11-01-08, 04:14 PM
Aye.

Pics/Vids whilst mapping like last time?? :) :)

trackdaynova
11-01-08, 04:18 PM
lol @ 'like last time', shocking that you remember!

I wasn't planning on doing, but yeah, can't see why not - going for the evening session, so will be starting at 6pm, and finishing at midnight :)

trackdaynova
11-01-08, 04:21 PM
Whilst I'm not overly fussed on engine bhp figure, I would like to see 190bhp if I could, my White one had 181bhp, that was Standard XE on Bodies, and a big 'ish' manifold. This one has Kent grpN spec cams and a bigger manifold so I hope to achieve the 190 marker...

More importantly tho, with the reduced transmission losses with a straight cut box, I would really like as close to 170bhp ATW, now that would be awesome, White one had 144 ATW.

ben21
11-01-08, 04:26 PM
Sweet baby jesus and the orphans.......a track day every month until June. fair play. I wouldn't mind getting to 1 before June let alone 1 each month!!! lol. Do you know if the Bedford 1 on the 9th allows spectators?

Adam
11-01-08, 04:29 PM
Aye, the Sccr etc should help a lot with the transmissions losses.
And at the wheel power is what really counts on the road.

Lol, i still have the old vids on my old hard drive somewhere from the white ones mapping.
Those were the days lol

Jonlem
11-01-08, 06:30 PM
Howdy, I wouldn't risk coming to Bedford to spectate as it could very well be a wasted journey. IIRC everyone who attends, spectators included have to of signed in so they know exactly who is there.

As its PalmerSport or whatever they are called they are **** hot on that sort of thing :(

Olly- see you in the morning, don't kill the fooker tonight for christs sake, I'll chat to you then about next friday ;)

trackdaynova

lol @ killing it

been out in it tonight, and scared myself sh*tless, so came in early lol its so appealing to hear WOT, it could get you into trouble

rain is mega bad, ots dark which makes it worse, headlights are even worse than that, and single wiper just ain't cricket lol lol lol

can i get to you for 10am please mate, will give you an hour on your service, and i can change my wheels, and found i got a puncture in my Rainsport tonight grrr, so will swap over 888s before I head across

That cool with you?

Jonlem

Thats fine mate, I'll try and get stuck into that Lexus first thing so hopefully I won't have much to do by the time you "tea boy" arrives :)

I've got 4 hrs book time to do this service and considering how little I have to do there must be a catch LOL like you have to take the heads off to get to the spark plugs or something ha ha

Great work guys, Certainly one of the best track nova's around at the moment :D

trackdaynova
13-01-08, 01:45 PM
Cheers Adam, yeh - fitting went quite well apart from some dodgy wiring, which I still claim is sh*t hot! lol Basically the injection fuel pump had stopped working which prevented it from starting, when I went to remove the fuel pump panel to check the fuse - it started working again... hmmm...

Upon starting there was a slightly tapping which I thought was a hydraulic follower as we hadn't emptied them, but we thougth it was something else.

Did a compression test there and then, and I think JB said it came back as 8/9/9/7, which wasn't great, so contemplated leaving the car with JB to whip the head off.

After much deliberation and calls to the misses because I'd let her down to go out for a meal (again), we decided that I'd drive it home (75miles) and just see what goes.

Anyway, with straight cut box, doing 70mph is like 4.8krpm, so to make any time up whatsoever I was constantly in the 5.5krpms all the way home, with the odd blat up to 7.5krpm in 5th to see what TomTom says.

Got about ten miles in on the A14, when the car died..... a very p*ssed off call to JB saying that I think it'd given up... but then it dawned on me... petrol! lol JB came to save me with a jerry can - thanks again - and my dodgy fuel gauge was still reading half full

Got the the Shell station, and it took a further 37litres, ontop of the 6 we'd put in just before, and the gauge then read 1/4 full... "somethingz a miss, me thinkz"... ggrrrrr

Anyway, plan was for JB to come over to mine today to remove the rocker, cams and empty the followers to see if that got us compression back, but before I started to take it to bits, I went and got a compression tester from Halfords, and did another test after it'd had a damn good hammering last night...

The results, I think, are pretty damn stable across the board... pics here:

Adam
13-01-08, 03:45 PM
Did you do it with all plugs out and the throttle(s) wide open?
160-200psi is considered normal as far as i know.

Whats usually more worrying is the difference between cylinders. So yours sounds fine.

ben21
13-01-08, 04:01 PM
Mine was 192/192/189/187 dude so yours sounds about right:)

Jonlem
13-01-08, 05:46 PM
Thank god for that LOL

I'm not suprised one that the lifters sorted themselves out after a few blats, I am however suprised that then even started to play up lol You live and learn. I've only seen it when engines sit for ages, not a few hours.

IIRC Ads was around 240-250 psi but its not exactly standard c/r.

Oh and just to add, your wiring is cack LOL I was having a right giggle at the excuses rolling off your tongue ;)

I managed to get home in time to get my dinner before it was offered to the dog, see you friday mate :)

Just fill it till the pump clicks off :) Then do 150/200 miles and refill again.
Senders are rare as fook, doubt you'll find one for friday. Checked the wiring?

13-01-08, 11:15 PM

Don't want to lead you on mate incase its not what I have

Adam
13-01-08, 11:21 PM
Its a bolt on/screw on cap thing mith a metal rod on with a float on the end.
Which tank do you have Olly as some tanks have the pump feed on the sender.

vaughanmc
13-01-08, 11:22 PM
I'll have a look for it :)

trackdaynova
13-01-08, 11:32 PM
Cheers lads - before you start looking Vaughan, I think it maybe wiring related, as it worked prior to me putting my bike clocks in, and then removing them!

I'll keep you informed tho for deffo

13-01-08, 11:33 PM
No problem, I'll look it out anyway :)

Check the black/blue wire on the clocks and the earth. And the connections at the sender end.

vaughanmc
14-01-08, 04:38 PM
My dad says what we have is a fuel sender with some wires coming from it

Just a matter of finding it now :)

trackdaynova
14-01-08, 05:30 PM
Problem sorted... thanks so much for your help on hand vaughan ! very much appreciated bud.

Basically I had 2x blue/black wires on my clock loom, but only 1 on my car side - thinking about it, I bought the clocks from Bax, that came out of a derv - would that make any difference?

Anyway - no dramas now, done about 120miles now, since filling up, and still have just over half a tank

Vaughan - see your usercp for updates :)

Good to hear its sorted Olly :)
On with friday now.

trackdaynova
14-01-08, 06:33 PM
Yup - made a list last night of things to do before Fridays mapping...

> Stop exhaust from knocking, and check for any blowing as we put it on with no paste
... done this today at local garage who gave me access to a ramp for a couple of hours, used oxygen and acetylene to heat up manifold and bend it away from tunnel, checked for blowing and was only blowing on 1 joint out of 3, so was pleased about that

> Do oil change, as had put a fair whack of cam lube in there, along with new cams which could have had bits of swarf on
... whilst i was down at garage today, did oil change which is dead quick and easy with car in the air, and a proper oil drainage system, and even let me fill it back up for nothing using their Mobile 10w40 Semi - awesome

> Buy lambda boss, and bung, drill hole and weld it on manifold
... trip to John Wilcox this morning sorted me out with a lambda boss and bung, just need to actually fit it onto the manifold

> Soften suspension, as I still had it setup for track - very stiff
... softened suspension by 10 clicks on the rear, and 7 clicks on the front which eased the pain of UK roads a little, however for the journey across to JB's and down to Kent, i'll soften it all the way

> Wire up the horn
... done diddly done tonight

> Sorting clocks out, fuel gauge and oil pressure misreading
... as mentioned above - done that too tonight- happy that i now know how much normal unleaded i have to use in time for Friday, as I will want to be getting it mapped on V-Power

> buy some ear plugs and charge iPod
... again - for journey down there, not done this yet

> wire in cigarette lighter socket, for charging TomTom or whatever
... this is still to be done

Lee
14-01-08, 06:48 PM
I wouldnt map it on V power olly, map it to a more regular super thats more freely availiable (97 or 98). Being stuck at a circuit and needing a top up with no shell garage in sight is annoying to say the least, and I doubt your engine is so close to Detting that V power is the only option lol

Jonlem
14-01-08, 06:51 PM
**** that, map it on V power, any other super will get you out of the cack when its needed but you can always find a Shell garage to fill up for trackdays, which tbh is what the car is built for.

Adam
14-01-08, 06:54 PM
V-power's ****e anyway.
Its not "proper" RON, just boosted with additives.

TESCO 99 is where its at lol

Lee
14-01-08, 06:54 PM
lmao lol Why bother, v power isnt going to make it any better, you may as well map it to the fuel most readily availiable.

Jonlem
14-01-08, 06:55 PM
Lee has a fair point BUT I've never been stuck for Shell fuels, I always carry a large jerry can which will easily see you through a day on track.

Lee
14-01-08, 07:01 PM
That much is true, if your carrying extra fuel it doesnt make much difference what you map it on.

But if you decide to do a trackday when Vpower isnt availiable, which happens a lot in my experience, youll have to run on a lower octane.

Not that it'll make much difference, but it'll go just as well mapped to either fuel. Why narrow your options?

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:12 PM
The differences between Super and V Power is small but there is differences, I'd much rather map it on V power but we have about 10 Shell garages in our area. I've never been stuck wherever I am in the uk or abroad.

If you have ever monitored knock using different fuels then you may realise why people use V power.

For that reason it would seme sensibel to map it on whatever the local fuel is but IMO there is more than enough Shell garages to not be stuck

Martin
14-01-08, 07:16 PM
fuels fuel right?

Lee
14-01-08, 07:19 PM
Yeah, V power's great for high comp engines. But olly's isnt a high comp engine lol It would probably be perfectly happy on 95!

But as you say, if you have plenty of V power about, you might just as well.

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:20 PM
NOT at all, enough tests have been done to prove that they are no where near the same.

Less of a problem on atmo engines, huge problem with turbo engines.

A couple of my mates run some serious monitoring gear in their cars whilst mapping and when their not and it is worrying to see the difference from fuels and even in some cases the differences with or without a splitter fitted !

Adam
14-01-08, 07:24 PM
Tesco 99RON has been proven better than V-Power.
And it keeps its octane rating.
V-Power "degrades"

Lee
14-01-08, 07:26 PM

Im not saying theres no difference, im saying on Ollys engine the difference will be so minimal as far as performance goes, it makes no odds whatsoever lol

People get far too anal about fuel types with engines like these. i agree on a turbo or a high comp race engine, the variables are far greater, but in this case it really doesnt need V power lol

My old engine used to mildly det on 95 and run fine on 98, which proves there is a difference, however i was running a ludicrous comp ratio lol Ollys block is standard, so in all fairness super would be more than adequate imo :)

I know you know your stuff Jonlem, im not arguing with you here lol lol Just stating my opinion based on my experience with many XE's!

Welsh Dan
14-01-08, 07:27 PM
All the more reason to map on V-power then, if you cant get it you end up on better fuel, rather than vice versa.

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:29 PM
Yeah, V power's great for high comp engines. But olly's isnt a high comp engine lol It would probably be perfectly happy on 95!

But as you say, if you have plenty of V power about, you might just as well.

I'm currently using the same spec engine as Ollys and I have run it on both fuels, the difference is ridiculous

Yes it works, but its not half as powerful on the lower octane fuel, the only way you could prove this theory is on a rolling road with 2 seperate fuel tanks with different fuels and a suitable na car, a standard xe nova would be enough.

Anyway this isn't a topic about fuels and octane ratings so we can carry this on elsewhere another time :thumb:

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:35 PM
Lee- totally fair points there mate, I have no doubt you have also had the luck of being around so many crap and so many nice xe's that we could go on all day about what we have learnt.

A xe with a mildly skimmed head will det on 95, I have the piston to prove it LOL

Adam, this is true but with Tesco's past record I think I'll buy my fuel from someone who hasn't caused many problems with customers engines ha ha
V Power may degrade but lets be honest, its not in their tanks long and I certainly know its never in mine long either lol

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:37 PM
Just realised, Olly has done a whole days work and NO pictures !!!

I'm concerned for you mate, are you ok ?

trackdaynova
14-01-08, 07:39 PM
no, i feel faint.

just to clear things up, bearing in mind i have a 3 hour journey in the car with you JB, to the mapping session, i think it'll save my ears just to get it mapped on v power ffs lol

you going on would be worse than TBs + SCCR put together lol

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:42 PM
Pah, get it mapped on whatever YOU feel right mate ;)

I'll find something else worth nagging at you about, don't you worry.

When were back at mine on friday it will be you doing the nagging whilst I'm doing some uphill gardening

Jonlem
14-01-08, 07:45 PM
awww, playing hard to get now, just how I like them

14-01-08, 07:53 PM

Lmao

I would always map on the fuel i intend to use. There is no point mapping on V-Power if your going to go and fill up at sainsburys after mapping. Not only could it damage your engine your also not maximizing your map.

Jonlem

My point is Rick that there is enough Shell garages in the uk not to be stuck without any.

I have NEVER been stuck so no reason why no one else should be if they are prepared :p

Thats how I am though and I cant expect everyone else to be the same :thumb:

Had my z20let on the same rollers with both tesco 99 and v-power and the v-power gave me 275bhp 340lbft and the tesco gave me 290bhp and 335lbft. I use the 99 tesco stuff as its so close to my house. But a new shell station has just opened across the road from my work ! V-power feels smoother, which i like.

Map it on v-power mate.

small update...

was around silverstone area today, so I dropped by Mardi Gras Motorsport to buy some Ferodo DS2500s, they had them on the shelf for Dynalite II calipers, and a bargain price of ?42

wanted them in for trackday at Bedford, but obviously needed them bedding in, so i fitted them tonight intime for the journey daaan saaafff, so that'll be 300miles worth at least.

also removed manifold to fit new lambda boss, and bung, so got a holecutter/ drill bit out and cut a hole big enough for the boss to fit inside, slight tap with the hammer, and them seam welded around it to ensure no blowing, sprayed it up and refitted to car/ exhaust - all checked and is sweet

just two bits to do now, cigarette lighter plug socket to be wired in for TomTom, and refit doorbars to rollcage :)

Cheers lads, yeh, I'm very happy with the results, especially considering the mods, or lack of, the engine has.

Very very thorough mapping by Steve Greenald & Steve Pitcher really really cannot recommend those guys enough, and once I have videos sorted I'll be hosting them on YouTube.

I said before I went, that I would be happy with 190bhp (165atw) and 150lbft, so it's exceeded expectations... and thats real horsepower too, the accuracy is phenominal, they changed the ign adv to see if we can get the 1% to make it 200, but it came back with 197.6bhp, so the consistancy was unreal.

As said by the Steves, on any other rollers, it'd probably make 200 lol

Not alot of footage, but I'll put together what I have and host it anyway, as I said i would for the guys at TnR.

Will post up graph in a tick once JB's sorted his scanner out

very pleasing to see that the apparent rubbish EBC greenstuff have held out very well considering alot of road mileage, along with a wet trackday

I had a set of 2nd hand Willy Dynalites running Greenstuff pads on my old 2.0 8v Saloon, best brakes I've ever experienced.

I also blagged a full set of front and rear EBC turbo groove discs and RedStuff pads for my old Octavia VRS, and it did 2 trips to the Nurburgring without complaint, when everyone around me was suffering with brake fade.

I'm sure EBC changed their material a good few years ago to combat poor reputation, but TBH I can't fault them. Much better than the Mintex C1144 pads I ran on my old 2.0 GSi.

DS2500s have a very good rep. One of the boys does a lot of track work with his an Evo 6 and swears by DS3000s, but he did say they have ruined his wheels lol.

With Bedford trackday this Saturday, I decided to look at car briefly to do some bits that just needed finishing off before it seen the track again.

So I fitted the passenger footplate again, and refitted the doorbars on the rollcage. Helmets are in the net ready, as is the camcorder on its mount (however vision is slightly restricted by seat "ears")

Got my intercom setup in there too - so decided to go out for a blat, and the Ferrodo DS2500s have certainly bedded in now - so back now, all ready for early doors on Saturday... yay...

Trackday wasn't really much to talk about, in short, I got black flagged 20 laps in due to being too noisy.

Static limit @ Bedford is 101dB, mine came in at 100.6dB @ 4.5krpm

Driveby limit was 87.5dB @ 20metres away, on my 20th lap, I got black flagged with 88dBs... damn thing.

In light of this, I need to quieten my car down at both induction and exhaust end, so today I bought this which will sort the induction out...

Details are:
New from Pipercross is the 600-series sealed airbox designed to fit all 600 baseplate applications and is ideal for vehicles where intake space is restricted.
http://www.pipercross.net/images/600_airbox.jpg

Dramatically reduces intake temperatures
Reduction in intake noise - ideal for trackday regulations
78mm depth, designed for space-critical applications
Suitable for rampipes up to 45mm in height
Available in left or right hand configurations
Attaches to all existing PX600 Pipercross baseplates
Replaceable foam Pipercross filter, with 75mm or 100mm alloy air intake

Now all thats left, is to get a new 3-box system made, or increase the sizes of my 2 boxes currently...

Ad - Donington is usually 101dB driveby (but thats at trackside, not at 20metres away)

Just about to book onto Rockingham, which have 103 static and driveby (but again, at trackside, not 20metres)

Ash - I got mine from www.ThePipercrossShop.co.uk (http://www.ThePipercrossShop.co.uk) as it happens lol very very helpful people, I bought the C6100RH (Airbox, 100mm inlet pipework, integral filter, right hand entry as you look at it), I bought the C6051 backing plate for it to fix to, as I'm going to me mounting it half way up my 90mm trumpets as they don't make one to accomodate 90mms, and they're throwing in a C604D sausage filter (125mm ID) for when I'm not running the box. I paid ?231.94 delivered.

Breakdown being, C6100RH Airbox - ?199.99, C6051 Backing Plate - ?32.95, and the sausage filter is free, plus free delivery.

Hi,

Bedford Autodrome is notorious for kicking people out. They have been known to lower the noise limit during a day with no warning and no refund. We avoid it for that reason.

You will not have any problems at Rockingham, I guarantee. We've never had a hint of trouble at Donnington either. The only other circuit we had trouble with was Goodward and they told us to give the sound beacons a wide birth and lift off a little.

The big airbox I made for mine took the bark out of the TB's.

I had the same happen to me Olly, it's as annoying as hell! Hence why my car now has the two intake options and all those silencers in the exhaust system.

As for the recording device. I have been looking at solid state recorders for a long while. What I will be getting (currently anyway) is the PDR100. It's a bit pricey but it is solid state and a damn fine unit as far as I can see. You can also get a small LCD screen for it for around ?46. It's an MPEG2 recorder so rendering the footage is simple.

Confirmed booking at Rockingham Raceway now, for Sunday 2nd March... which is 2 weeks on Sunday... :) ?160, open pit all day if you book within the first 15 spaces, then it goes up to ?195.

Airbox setup will be on by then, and I will be taking some extra ideas to quiten exhaust down should I need to, but at Rockingham, you get a couple of chances to reduce your noise, which is better.

Tonight I bought the CD of photos from Bedford too (full res ones), so will post them up when I get them through, noticed from the drive, and the pics, that my suspension was set way too soft, but I didn't exactly have a chance to change it, with getting flagged on my second outting lol

14-02-08, 06:58 PM
Found a fix for my exhaust noise, I'm going to buy one of these "dB killer exhaust baffles" from eBay.

http://www.service-champions.co.uk/images/motorcycle_parts_%26_accessories/excnrk_largel.jpg

Simple really, just slide in the end of your tailpipe into your back box, and nut and bolt on.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTORCYCLE-EXHAUST-BAFFLE-KIT-NOISE-REDUCTION-db-KILLER_W0QQitemZ310021238289QQihZ021QQcategoryZ256 23QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The only problem I can forsee, is that the widest part of the above item is 48mm shoulder, and the internal diameter of my tailpipe is 52mm, so I'll need to weld on another thin skin to pack it out.

Hopefully that'll be and end to my noise problems :)

Any gen on the bung ?

Were at Bruntingthorpe on monday and as you may of seen in the vids I posted the car is rather noisy

trackdaynova
19-02-08, 10:02 PM
seen the pod vids, but thats it ?

not received the exhaust bung on the previous page - altho received the silencer box above today...

thinking about this airbox, i dont think its going to be as easy fit as Lee's (lee303) was... trunking will foul on the washer bottle in the standard place, which is no bother, as i can remove that, however I noticed only recently that he doesnt run a standard servo/ mc/ brake fluid res bottle, which is where the airbox is going to hit - so i might well be selling the box on lol

I was reading a friends copy of PVW yesterday and one of the products they reviewed was an electronic exhaust valve, works basically like a porsche one, leave it in standard mode and it's nice and quite (good for motorway driving ;)) and then flick a switch and hear the full bark of the exhaust. It was about ?130 and seem very well made/manufactured. I'll find the name if you interested.

Jonlem
19-02-08, 10:41 PM
I read the same article, it would do exhausts upto 6" too iirc !

prices were from ?130 I think though

Ash
19-02-08, 10:46 PM
Still cheaper the a whole exhaust system I suppose...

I'll probably end up fitting one with my new exhaust, more to cut out the drone on long trips e.g the ring.

Jonlem
19-02-08, 10:59 PM
The increase in back pressure could fook an engine which is really why i'm not so keen on using one on ours considering what were doing with our car.

What Rick Draper had made for his nova turbo is what you need ideally although I wouldn't want to be following him when it falls off mid corner lol

Hayward and Scott make very high quality exhaust systems, I know several people with exhausts from them who's cars aren't that noisy at all.

You get what you pay for though, like anything really.

I cant see the airbox being a problem on your car Olz, should fit fine

trackdaynova
20-02-08, 06:23 PM
regarding the airbox - i bladdy hope so - else i'll have to sell it on and have a re-re-rethink again lol

just check out pics of lee303s, and you'll see what i mean about the exit of the box hovers where the brake fluid res bottle should be.

can't run it drivers side as it prodrudes out the side of the bodies too much and would deffo foul on the strut

trackdaynova
21-02-08, 05:34 PM
big balls of fire

basically, got the airbox today and it doesn't fit at all. completely fouls the brake fluid resevoir bottle and cap.

had a rethink, and rather than mounting the backing plate half way up the 90s in order to keep them, i thought, i'll swap to 45s, and mount it directly on the trumpets as it should be - still fouled tho - even worse than before.

anyone have any other ideas of an airbox style thing to reduce the induction roar?

Have you tried it over the drivers side?
Definently wont fit there either?

trackdaynova

yup, tried that, and for how much it protrudes horizontally, it almost hits my bonnet strut lol

Remove the brake servo and use a corsa set up. Weight saver too:thumb:

Adam
21-02-08, 05:50 PM
But he has the fuel swirl pot etc etc where the corsa setup would need to go.
And a corsa setup means you need to make up new brake lines for the car to fit the new mc position....

trackdaynova
21-02-08, 06:07 PM
Adam is correct, I can't justify spending more money on relocation swirl setup, new brake lines being made, fluid, along with all the rest of the work involved, as I'm mega happy with how my brakes perform anyway.

Just one of those things - I'll sell the box on.

Adam

Pedal box would be ok as you could relocate the fluid reservoirs.

Never really looked into it - but would it not be possible relocate the standard reservoir somewhere else - The standard res is only pushed into the master cylinder - If you could 'bodge' some sort of way of fastening a pipe to the push in fitting. you could relocate one of these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/resources/images/zoom/TAS380.jpg to wherever you wanted ??

Just thinking out aloud - probably won't work !!!!!!!!!!!

Good idea Dave!
Surely you could make some kind of pipe from remote resivoirs to the master cyl. I've got 2 remote resivoirs in my garage that arn't doing anything and will proberly never get used. :thumb:

trackdaynova
21-02-08, 08:01 PM
Will - it'll fit fine on yours ya bast' lol

Fantastic idea Dave/ Nath, I'll have a look to see if I can get my resevoir moved somehow!

I'll keep everyone updated... thanks again... maybe i can see the light

trackdaynova
21-02-08, 08:17 PM
I don't suppose anyone knows how the res is held onto the MC?

Is it just a push on fixing? i think thats what I remember it is, but can't remember!

Rick Draper
21-02-08, 08:25 PM
Push fit iirc.

Adam
21-02-08, 08:26 PM
Yep

trackdaynova
21-02-08, 08:36 PM
i suppose i need to find out the diameter, and the type of push fitting, ie: thickness of rubber etc

fearless
21-02-08, 08:37 PM
As long as you can get some sort of air tight seal on the pipe to the master cylinder - it should work

The supply of fluid to the master cylinder has no pressure to it - it's only gravity fed - may be possible to cut the bottom of the res off to leave just the seal/pipe and fix a tube/pipe to it with an olive fixing !!!!

Would need to see a reserviour to assist any further - It years since I've looked at one closely !!!!

Awaits someone to post a piccy ;)

In fact, thinking about it - Pushing a tight fit rubber hose over it with a jubilee clip would be a first class 'bodge'
However I would prefer a more Professional 'bodge' myself !!!!

Dave

I know its a diesel and using a pedal box - but it demonstrates the use of remote reservoirs and how they can be used to overcome problems ;)

I'm quite sure that if you took the MC to a couplings place you could get a connection that would screw in to the rubber on the MC and give you some thing to take off of on the other end.

Something that 'looks' like this
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/resources/images/zoom/KRNMETAD.jpg

Deffo dooable.

novashed
22-02-08, 05:50 PM
agreed with dar here. wouldnt take a lot to runa line off off the MC a reservoir

trackdaynova
22-02-08, 07:42 PM
still a brilliant idea chaps, and is something i'm going to look into doing.

but for now, luckily, the company i bought it from has offered me a full refund, which is nice of them, and i'm going to take them up on it (for now), should i get the remote resevoir done, then i will probably "re buy" another, but really don't want to miss out on getting a full refund without a percentage handling charge!

just gotta hope that rockingham is going to be nice to me... i have now, 3x devices to sort my noisey exhaust... and hopefully something in the pipeline for the induction :)

Attended a rolling road day today at JamSport in conjunction with VauxSport

I had my mapping done only 3 weeks ago at Track n Road and made 197.7bhp @ 7620rpm

Today at Jamsport, different rollers, different software, different time of day and weather - still made 196bhp @ 7620rpm < exactly the same peak power rpm! also made 154lbft of torque. :thumb:

Less than half a percent difference between the rollers, so i'm pleased to say they must be pretty accruate

What output did Jamsport's rollers give in comparison with Track n Roads?? I think Olly said on VS, TnR rollers (known to be very accurate) gave 197hp, and Jamsport gave 196bhp iirc, and the same peak revs.....

So Jam's rollers are pretty good too(hopefully be the same at the png rr)

Thanks CP - I was happy with the comparison!

Right then, another big thanks to Dar once again for the loan of his airbox to quieten down my throttlebodies in time for Rockingham trackday on Sunday - cheers bud.

Had a bit of a mare fitting it tho, obviously Dar isn't a pansy like me and doesn't run heaters, so I had to remove the blowers to get it to fit, along with my airtemp sensor thats screwed into the backing plate, so it's just going to be fixed out the way for the trackday.

He also sent up his filter and trunking which was ace, altho I noticed that my tumble dry trunking fits, and its the same size ID, more flexible and alot longer that reaches down to my passenger headlight that I bought off Craig Green - cheers again for that.

All is good - will get some pics of it tomorrow for those that want to see :)

Thanks again Dar :) :thumb:

After Rockingham, I'm aware of the following things that I need/ want to do to the car.

> Get Geometry professionally done
> Buy and fit a kwikrack
> Sort out "minor" oil leaks lol
> Even higher poundage front springs again
> Get rid of the 888s, and buy some full slicks

I think thats about it

Nothing like a thread going a bit stale, and a bit off topic.

Not alot has happened to the car, in fact - I've not looked at it since Rockingham, and not booked onto anymore days as there is a couple of things I need to do.

I'm trying to buy Kev Turbos Quaife Quik Rack, but for some reason he doesn't want to post it out - so I'm trying to get a way of still getting them from him.

Just ordered 4x new Toyo Proxe 888s from Reyland.co.uk, so thats that sorted, due to get car on ramps tomorrow so I can cure the oil leak around the sandwich plate

Good times!
