View Full Version : What colour wheels?

Dar

I've bought some new wheels and I will be spraying them to freshen them up a bit. I like black wheels and all my wheels are either black or anthracite. Since these wheels will probably be used for my sprint slicks I was wondering if I should paint them black, keep them white OR paint them a different colour.

So I decided to get all your opinons. RJ kindly did the hard work involved in photoshoping (I still can't work out that ruddy program).

Over to you lot :D I'm quite liking the yellow option at the mo.
EDIT: You can pick multiple colours if you like more than one.....and coochiSR - ruddy ell you where quick!!!

If only I had some teddy's to paint pink. The yellow idea was to match the other yellow bits I have on the car in the engine bay. The Team Banzaiundersteer sticker is also yellow-ish.
Keep the suggestions and comments coming:thumb:

OK Just to finish this thread off. The wheels are done:)
They don't have to be perfect since they are only going on a track car. They have come out well enough. This next little bit is mainly for Ad4m:thumb:

Quick wheel refurb guide
Take a wheel. In this case a Compomotive TH3 thats a bit tired. Sand it down. This is the point where if you want a very nice finish you must take lots of care and get everything nice and smooth. Im just intrested in taking the worst of the chips out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07129_640x480.jpg
Then you must get rid of all the dust. I use brake cleaner on a bit of towel as a cheap and nasty panel wipe. If you need primer you can primer up the wheel now and you will see how good your sanding was. The paint I was using didn't need primering so I skiped that stage. Now for painting. I am no expert but I have found that its best to work from the lower parts first. So for these wheels I did in side the rim bit first.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07131_640x480.jpg
Then inside the spokes
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07132_640x480.jpg
Then the whole top surface.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07133_640x480.jpg
Then the sides
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07134_640x480.jpg
Wait for it to dry and then turn it over and do the lower inside bits
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07135_640x480.jpg
Then the inside edge
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/DPursey/Wheels/DSC07125_640x480.jpg
I then flip it back over and do another coat on the top side.

If you need primer you can primer up the wheel now and you will see how good your sanding was. The paint I was using didn't need primering so I skiped that stage.

Is that a special alloy wheel paint you used to not require primering?

Dar
15-08-07, 10:07 AM
Nope its a special super tough paint that sticks to anything.

I was going to use hammerite but this stuff comes in Satin and is cheaper as well.

I have a scam going where I buy a can 3 cans of Hammerite hammered from a local shop... then take them back to B&Q without a receipt who then let me change them for Smooth which is slightly cheaper thus gaining me a free can. :thumb:

I can't help being a tight ****.

I don't reckon it'll run too well on 4 different wheels. You'd be better off getting all four the same.

Although having said that, you could put some 16" on the nearside and 15" on the offside - you'll probably get round RH corners better. Pull over, swap them over to the other side when you get to a LH corner. That'd shave a few seconds off your lap times.

Dar
17-08-07, 02:34 PM
Don't be silly RJ. I have two 16" wheels. They will going on the rear of the car to make it look more aggresive. 15" on the front :thumb:

I knew from the start that this wheel colour poll was all a waste of time lol. He cant paint his wheels any colour but black or anthrecite lol

And its SOOO cliche as well!

Dar
17-08-07, 07:49 PM
Oi I went with the poll results!
Check it, Black deffo has a big lead. I currently have four sets of wheels for the Nova. I'm still on the lookout for another set of 15" wheels though.
